Job Description

The Data Strategist position leads, maintains, and coordinates consumer and business data domains across the enterprise. Provides data investigation and interpretation services to the business, while ensuring the quality, integrity, and accuracy of data for all of STCU. This position partners closely with the BI team to establish standards, processes, thresholds, data dictionaries, and compliance of data. Provides data and technical stewardship to enterprise consumer and business level data as well as input in to the future state data architecture. 

Core Job Requirements/Outcomes

  • Provide innovative analytical insights by working with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions including interpreting data and presenting information using data visualization techniques to identify data patterns and trends.
  • Using statistical practices, analyze current and historical data to make predictions, identify risks, and opportunities, enabling better decisions on planned/future events by transforming data presented carts and tables into a format that is useful to the business and aids in effective decision making.
  • Ensure accuracy, performance, understanding, and operational and analytical efficiencies by documenting business requirements and translating them into technical requirements. 

Other Essential Functions

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the source systems and the data warehouse by understanding existing business processes, functions and corporate data.
  • Acquire and integrate data from multiple data sources for analysis, perform exploratory to advanced predictive and/or modeling analytics, and identify data relationships such as trends, patterns and correlations in order to solve business questions as well as provide actionable recommendations.
  • Present data and analysis in a clear and concise manner allowing the internal clients to quickly understand the results and make data driven decisions.
  • Interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining and predictive analytics.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, statistics, applied math or related field required. Masters degree preferred.

Job Experience: At least eight years’ experience in data management and/or technology related work and at least minimum five years in strategic/leadership role.

Software Skills: Experience using SQL and statistical software packages to discover, aggregate, and extract data. Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, etc.) to manipulate and draw insights from large data sets. Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools. Ability to create relevant and readable graphs, charts, and presentations. Knowledge of Information Builders is preferred but not required. Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.

Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
