Job Description

The Application Administrator III is responsible for the administration and day to day operation of  STCU servers and the services they provide to employees, members, and other systems.  This position also performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, automation, scripting, and support.   

Principal Accountabilities
System Administration

  • Responsible for administration of Microsoft Windows, Linux, Routers, Switches, Phone System and their services ensuring optimal system availability and performance.  This includes but is not limited to, monitoring, patching, following established system standards, backups, optimization, troubleshooting, and providing connectivity to services.  
  • Provide general administration for Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, DHCP, DNS, anti-virus, and other network services.  
  • Automate tasks and processes for efficiency using automation software, PowerShell or other methods.  
  • Prioritize and resolve escalated system and software help desk requests.
  • Follow established procedures, verify automated backups, and proactively monitor server systems to ensure they are working properly.  
  • Establish appropriate end-user server access control levels and security.  
  • Schedule, coordinate, and work with other technical staff to perform system upgrades, server lifecycles, migrations and to maintain patch levels for the OS, server management products, and applications running on servers.  
  • Provide server performance statistics and metrics.  
  • Maintain an awareness of security considerations and possible impact with new designs and system changes.
  • Assist in the development and communication of disaster recovery procedures to protect and preserve server systems. 
  • Determine growth rate of managed systems and work with Engineering to ensure future capacity.

Support

  • Provide support to other application administrators to ensure availability of all server based applications in use at the credit union.
  • Share on-call responsibility for server environments.
  • Participate in after-hours deployments.
  • Interact with and support end users directly while troubleshooting server issues.

Documentation 

  • Maintain accurate documentation of job functions.
  • Provide change control records of requests made for production.
  • Maintain and design system diagrams.

Projects

  • Plan STCU business application patching and upgrades as the application technical lead or in conjunction with a project manager.
  • Prioritize, plan, and execute assigned deliverables and tasks according to deadlines and budgets set by a project leader.
  • Maintain effective project communications with team leader, team members, champions, sponsors, and other credit union staff.
  • Provide internal consulting that supports the technology needs of other departments.
  • Work with Engineering staff to implement new systems and ensure documentation is sufficient to support application post deployment.
  • Create proposals for new projects that should be undertaken by the Application Administrators or Engineering.

Vendor Management

  • Maintain regular communication with vendors to learn product feature directions, report and seek resolution of product defects and submit and monitor development of requested feature enhancements.
  • Ensure enterprise-wide needs for due diligence, risk assessment and continuing vendor monitoring is complete.
  • Facilitate product upgrades and new feature integrations, working closely with stakeholders, and ensure business requirements are effectively addressed.
  • Act as liaison for external vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and assist with vendor processes and methods of approving vendors.
  • Track, measure, report and evaluate vendor performance.
  • Troubleshoot all vendor problems and present to management as required.
  • Manage assigned vendor relationships by communicating regularly with vendor contacts, facilitating open discussions on product or services and negotiate/sign contracts, when required, within given authority.
  • Monitor the performance of third-party service providers to ensure quality and service levels are maintained. Immediately report any situations where service and support levels are not within standards.
  • Work closely with vendors to maintain good relationships, effectively address business requirements and resolve outstanding issues.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related discipline or specialized training from an accredited vocational school.
  • Current Microsoft Server, Networking, Security, or SQL certification required.
  • PowerShell or SQL programming experience required.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience with at least three core IT technologies (SQL, IIS, Routing/Switching, SharePoint, etc.) required.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required, including maintaining positive relationships and excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work group, as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changes and prioritize and manage competing demands.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and understand and communicate complex and diverse information. 
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations exercising flexibility and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to make practical and timely decisions and explain reasoning for decisions.
  • Strong work ethic required, including the ability to complete duties on time, consistently arrive at work on time as scheduled, and ability to work flexible and/or extended hours, weekends, overtime, and to be on-call within a one hour response time as needed.  

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to regularly talk, hear, see and operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Occasionally lift, pull/push, and carry up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting.
  • Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
