Job Description

The ETL Developer II maintains the relevant sources of data ensuring that it is being stored properly. They develop the ETL processes as well as data exploration/visualization and write code that meets the technical and business requirements. They are responsible for these programs, testing, requirement evaluation, addressing and resolving issues, and for the maintenance and operations of an ETL environment using the Informatica PowerCenter toolset.  

Principal Accountabilities

Development

  • Code, test, implement, debug, and document the ETL processes.
  • Create proper technical documentation for new mappings including source to target.   
  • Create Logical and Physical architecture (entities, keys, column names, abbreviations, business glossary, diagrams) in Erwin Data Modeling tool. 
  • Implement ETL mappings in Informatica, maintaining consistency with STCU’s standards and guidelines for ETL development.
  • Implement efficient workflows in Informatica, maintaining consistency with STCU’s standards and guidelines for workflow implementation.
  • Utilize data exploration and visualization techniques and/or tools in data repositories for possible sourcing. 
  • Reference the business dimensional model and updates facts/dimensions as needed as new data points are introduced. 
  • Produce data extract files according to business need or third party system requirements. 
  • Understand the business needs and designs ETL loads that match the complex business requirements and records all specifications that are involved in the development and coding process. 
  • Ensure that the standard requirements have been met and is involved in performing the technical analysis. 
  • Coordinate and work with other staff to develop data warehouse strategies, and quality assurance procedures (data governance) and changes to the existing data warehouse environment.

Miscellaneous Duties       

  • Develop test plans so that ETL coding can be verified to ensure its applicability and smooth operation.
  • Review coding to ensure that high levels of quality are being met. 
  • Test ETL modules, plans, and deployments and tests the ETL mappings to ensure requirements are met. 
  • Responsible for translating the functional requirements so as to meet specific technical requirements. 
  • Engage in counseling peers on applications of data cleansing, data analysis, and data matching. 
  • Support business intelligence tool architecture, security requirements and report development as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the department and the organization. This includes the possibility of being assigned temporarily to other needs.   

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and minimum five years of ETL development experience.
  • Two years’ experience performing data exploration, visualization, and analysis in data repositories. 
  • Two years’ experience in Business Intelligence or a related area.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting dimensional data warehouses and the ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) process including performance tuning and efficient coding. 
  • Demonstrated experience adjusting ETL mappings and data flows. 
  • Intermediate Relational Database Management development experience (Stored Procedure Development, Physical DB Object creation etc.)
  • Applied experience with data warehouses, data mining, large-scale data modeling, business requirements gathering/analysis, and data processing flowcharting techniques.
  • Strong competency in the ability to construct and write efficient SQL queries to filter and extract data for the ETL process. 
  • Strong written, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse work group, as well as independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, as well as strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to demonstrate a constant and quick learning ability and should be flexible to adapt to new developing technologies. 
  • General knowledge of applicable information security, data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong work ethic required, including the ability to complete duties on time, consistently arrive at work on time as scheduled, and ability to work flexible and/or extended hours, weekends, overtime, and to be on-call within a one hour response time as needed. 

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to regularly talk, hear, and operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Occasionally lift, pull/push, and carry up to 10 pounds.
