Job Description

The Senior Auditor assists with providing independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to: add value, improve the Credit Union’s operations, and analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of procedures and operating controls designed to safeguard the credit union’s assets. This position is responsible for performing individual internal audit projects as part of the total internal audit plan. This responsibility includes developing the internal audit scope, planning and performing audits, and preparing internal audit reports. Additionally, the Senior Auditor acts as a mentor to other audit positions and often directs the work performed on joint projects.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • Relevant certification (CPA, CIA, CRCM, etc.) or willingness to pursue and achieve a certification in a reasonable/agreed upon time frame.
  • Minimum three years of recent auditing experience with a minimum of three years’ experience working in a financial institution preferred. 
  • Sound understanding of accounting, banking laws, regulations, operations and risk assessment practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices used in internal auditing and the ability to apply them.
  • Excellent organization and listening skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and time management skills.
  • Ability to make practical and timely decisions and explain reasoning for decisions.
  • Ability to detect violations and non-compliance with complex laws, regulations, policies, procedures, etc.  Ability to explain and interpret irregularities and effectively respond to questions from groups of managers, and outside examiners/auditors.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes and handle/prioritize multiple tasks, competing demands simultaneous projects etc. in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work group, as well as independently with no supervision.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills required, including maintaining positive relationships and excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • High work ethic required, including the ability to consistently meet deadlines, arrive at work on time as scheduled, and ability to work flexible hours and overtime as needed. 
  • Reliable transportation is required due to regular travel to branch offices within the local area.

Physical Abilities

  • Must be able to regularly talk, hear, and operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Occasionally lift, pull/push, and carry up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting.
  • Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
