SNV has been present in Nigeria since 2020 and is currently seeking applicants for a full-time position for Youth Employment and Mobilisation Advisor on one of its Agriculture Project. The position is based in Abuja.

Overview of the Position

The Youth Employment and Mobilisation Advisor will be responsible for the project day to day implementation within the project targeted area with the objective to support and identify Youth- and women-led green enterprises developed into competitive entrepreneurs and job creators through functional and transformed adapted-crop value chains and markets. S/he will provide both programmatic and administrative support to youth employment intervention and work with youth, youth groups and structures, local government, private sector and other partners for the delivery of the project activities. The advisor will work jointly with the project lead, national technical team and other SNV project staff to deliver the assigned task.

Job Description

The key responsibilities of the Youth Employment and Mobilisation Advisor will include the following:

  • Facilitate active participation and trust-building with communities and other stakeholders.
  • Continuously identify and promote business opportunities for new youth-led MSEs and wage employment in the target regions and respective project areas.
  • Support knowledge sharing and learning and exchange of best practices and innovative solutions in youth entrepreneurship and attend key events on youth employment in agriculture;
  • Mobilize, organize and profile youth groups for engagement in adapted-crop value chain activities
  • Facilitate the provision of basic life, business and technical skills training to young women and men job seekers that align with the requirements of potential employers in partnership with training service providers and employers.
  • Support the establishment of youth representative advisory structures to guide project implementation.
  • Proactively identify and engage enterprises and other actors for apprenticeship and on-the job training.
  • Facilitate the provision of tailored business skills trainings to young women and men led MSEs (including soft, financial literacy and digital skills).
  • Facilitate the provision of business development services.
  • Link youth led MSEs with a financial institution and other financing opportunities to improve access to funds.
  • Engage in the identification of potential business development service providers. 
  • Facilitate to support business start-up.
  • Capacitate youth-led MSEs.
  • Facilitate brokering and professionalization of market linkages.
  • Accomplish related activities to ensure the jobs created are dignified and fulfilling.
  • Ensure the regular project data collection and timely reporting and performance indicators.
  • Contribute to the documentation of project lessons. 

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree preferably M.SC in the field (s) such as: Agri business, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Community development, and/or related courses.

Experience:

  • Minimum five years and above years’ experience in enterprise development, agri business development, youth employment and livelihoods, marketing, microenterprise development, community based financial service, microfinance.
  • Good facilitation skill
  • Able to lead and take ownership of deliverables
  • Experiences of working in NGOs; and communities at grass root level are advantageous.
  • Understanding of enterprise and value chain/agri business development.
  • Strong networking, partnership and interpersonal skills
  • Training planning and delivery skills.

Additional Skill:

  • Excellent understanding of the culture and ways of living of target communities
  • Speaks the local language fluently.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and excellent awareness about communities, government structure and etc.     
  • Good report writing skill and able to collect document and share records and information.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
  • Ability and Willingness to frequently travel to all project locations.
  • work independently and as part of the team, and work effectively with co-workers, partner agencies and the private sector.

Contract Type: Employment Contract

Contract Duration:  Two (2) year full-time National employment contract

Expected Start Date: 15 November 2026, depending on contract award date
