Call for Consultant: Development of an impact story on climate-resilient enterprise growth in Cambodia
- Contract
- Contract type: Consultancy
Company Description
SNV is a global development partner rooted in the African and Asian countries where we operate. With 60 years of experience and a team of approximately 1,600 people, it is our mission to strengthen capacities and catalyse partnerships that transform the agri-food, energy, and water systems to enable sustainable and more equitable lives for all.
- Background and objectives of assignment
SNV’s work in Cambodia builds on a continuum of catalytic finance initiatives that help early-stage enterprises grow into investable, climate-resilient businesses. Through programmes such as Innovations Against Poverty (IAP) and the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD), SNV supports enterprises that bridge the gap between innovation and scale, turning promising models into viable, finance-ready operations that deliver both economic and community benefit.
This assignment will produce a written impact story capturing the journeys of two such enterprises, SOGE and HUSK, as they evolve from IAP-supported pilots to DFCD-backed businesses. The story should explore how catalytic support has enabled their growth, and how these models are improving resilience for farmers and local communities.
To ensure the story is both credible and nuanced, SNV seeks to engage an independent Cambodia-based journalist, writer or communications professional. Because SNV maintains active working relationships with these companies, a neutral writer can offer an external lens, providing space for honest perspectives and a fuller understanding of both the real and potential impact of these enterprises on people, climate, and nature.
The story will follow SNV’s Storytelling Guidelines: human-centred, voice-led, and grounded in lived experience rather than programme narratives. It should bring together multiple viewpoints, from business leaders to farmers or community members, and reflect the broader systems and conditions in which these businesses operate.
Objectives
- Capture how catalytic support through IAP and DFCD has enabled enterprise growth and resilience.
- Document tangible and potential impacts for communities, livelihoods, and local environments.
- Present multiple voices and perspectives to reflect the complexity of real-world change.
- Produce an editorial story suitable for publication on SNV/IAP/DFCD channels and other platforms.
Job Description
The consultant will:
- Conduct preparatory desk research on IAP and DFCD support to SOGE and HUSK.
- Develop an interview plan and coordinate logistics with SNV focal points.
- Carry out field visits to Phnom Penh and project sites (Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom).
- Interview enterprise representatives and at least two farmers, customers or community members per business.
- Write a feature-length impact story (approx. 1,200–1,500 words, English) that meets SNV’s editorial standards and incorporates multiple voices and verified data.
- Revise based on up to two rounds of SNV feedback.
- Submit a final, publication-ready version in Word format.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in feature or investigative writing on social, environmental, or enterprise topics
- Experience working in Cambodia and fluency in Khmer (or strong collaboration with a translator/interpreter).
- Strong interviewing and narrative-building skills aligned with SNV’s storytelling guidelines
- Value for money and realistic workplan (5–7 days)
