We are currently looking for Project Field Officer (GESI and Women Economic Empowerment), Full-time, based in Rantauprapat - Labuhanbatu district to support implementation of Biodiverse and Inclusive Palm Oil Sustainability (BIPOSC) project.
BIPOSC Project
The BIPOSC project aims to achieve sustainable palm oil supply chain through the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices, locally adapted agroforestry model, and ecosystem protection. Ultimately, we aim to move towards deforestation-free palm oil supply chain. The project encourages sustainable practices in the palm oil supply chain by enhancing the capacity of smallholder farmers and strengthening the institutional framework of farmers association.
Through capacity building and technical assistance, we promote the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices that will improve soil health, preserve biodiversity, and better water resource management. Moreover, we encourage the agroforestry model that integrated the palm oil plant with local commodity to improve farmer livelihood.
In the Phase 1 (2021-2024), BIPOSC enabled sustainable practices adoption in the palm oil supply chain by enhancing the capacity of 1,000 smallholder farmers and strengthening the institutional framework of farmers institutions in Labuhanbatu District. For the second phase (2024-2027), the project aims to strengthen its contribution for women economic empowerment and adds a component focusing on the topic. The project plans to empower 400 female smallholder farmers (final target to be confirmed) in Labuhan Batu, North Sumatra.
BIPOSC will contribute to this commitment by focusing on three focus areas:
- Awareness and practice enhancement of fairer labor distribution at household level
- Women’s participation and leadership strengthening at community level
- Female farmers and families’ economic advancement by microenterprises establishment and operations
Activities and monitoring indicators have been designed, informed by key risks identification and mitigation plan.
Job Description
The Project Field Officer works to ensure the (quality of the) service delivery to the client or user community. Executes the local delivery of the project conform advice given by the advisor(s)/ project manager and conform SNV procedures and guidelines, making sure timelines and project standards are met. Anticipates on delivery challenges to ensure service and delivery continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Service and process delivery
- Delivers Gender and Women Economic Empowerment annual work plan according to the agreed timeline and budget plan
- In coordination and consultation with the Project Manager and GESI Advisor, guides and trains Village Facilitators to deliver activities at the village level
- Ensures Village Facilitators activities’ quality and consistency with SNV’s values and policies
- Identifies opportunities, challenges, and bottlenecks in work plan implementation, and communicates to the Project Manager and GESI Advisor.
Internal and external communication
- Participates actively in internal communication initiatives, especially during regular BIPOSC team meeting or SNV Indonesia’s learning sessions, and on various topics including project progress updates, stories of changes, lessons learned and best practices from the component/initiative
- Contributes to external communication initiatives, including development and dissemination of relevant communication materials to key clients e.g., programme’s brief/factsheet
- Upon coordination with the Project Manager and GESI Advisor, engages relevant project stakeholders at district, sub-district, and village levels to ensure project’s conformity with local contexts, values, and norms
Project data handling
- Ensures programmes data handling according to SNV’s policy and procedure e.g., OneDrive utilisation
- In coordination with MEL Officer/Team, regularly monitors, collects data, and documents Village Facilitators’ progress and achievement, and stores in accessible platform e.g., monitoring dashboard, TeamSite
- Supports MEL Officer/Team to conduct relevant MEL events e.g., baseline, mid-term, endline, evaluation and ensures documentation and storage of final products in accessible platform e.g., TeamSite
Process improvement
- Identifies and proposes technical process improvements to the Project Manager, GESI Advisor, and team members, based on experience and learnings from the field
- Ensures lessons learned are applied in daily practice
- Ensures, monitors progress and reviews quality of own expertise and ensures client support and satisfaction during projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant area (development/social studies, public policy, social/women empowerment, agriculture)
- Minimum 3 years’ work experience in relevant topics, e.g., gender equality, women empowerment, farmer empowerment/capacity building, business development for women. Experience in palm oil value chain is preferable
- Experienced in working with local organisations, including local CSO, farmers associations/cooperatives, local businesses
- Experienced in facilitating training/workshop with diverse participants’ background
- Knowledge of agriculture sector, palm oil value chain, and key issues and actors in Indonesia and North Sumatra
- Good management skills, including activities and budgets planning, review, delivery, monitoring, evaluation
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully listen to, interact with, and communicate clearly with people from diverse background within the team
- Excellent computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Power Point
- Indonesian native speaker, good English command
