SNV established its EU Liaison Office in Brussels in June 2022, building on its strategic priorities. From May 2022 to May 2023, SNV assumed the co-Presidency of the Practitioners’ Network (PN) together with FIIAPP. As former co-President, SNV joined the PN Steering Committee for a period of 3 years, as of June 2021 (Expertise France is the current President.) From 2024 on, a key objective of SNV will be to continue work already underway as part of its Global Partnerships and Business Development strategy with the EU and partners.

Job Description

SNV is now looking to hire a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the EU Partnerships Officer based in Brussels.

The successful candidate will support SNV’s EU engagement, working closely with SNV’s EU Account manager, the Global Partnerships and Business Development team, as well as other members of the wider SNV team. The position will support collaboration and partnership building, contribute to developing new (funding) opportunities with the EU institutions including the European Commission and Delegations in partner countries, EU Members States organisations, the PN members and other key partners. This role will also contribute to strengthen SNV’s positioning as a trusted partner in European development cooperation, through effective engagement, knowledge sharing and learning, and working together with others for more impact.

Reporting to the EU Account Manager based in the Hague and working with SNV colleagues, the EU Partnerships Officer’s key Responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to implementing SNV’s EU engagement in Brussels and relevant countries.
  • Represent SNV in Brussels. Support and nurture relationships with SNV’s strategic EU partners, including PN presidency and members and the EC, to contribute to deepening collaborations.
  • Work closely with the EU Account Manager and other Partnerships and BD colleagues to identify and support emerging EU priorities, TEI and opportunities, provide relevant information on regional and country (Team Europe) initiatives, organise relevant meetings with key EC and EU/PN Member States representatives in Brussels, and co-develop initial concept notes to promote the participation of SNV in joint programming.
  • Support EU BD prospects/opportunities including support on partner negotiations, teaming agreements, and full proposal development until submission.
  • Support and nurture the relationships with SNV’s strategic EU partners, including PN presidency and members and the EC in Brussels, to contribute to deepening collaborations.
  • Coordinate SNV’s Brussels based activities in the PN and ensure our participation in key meetings and events of the PN and associated Working Groups. Prepare key inputs and takeaways and support our thematic co-leads of Workstreams as relevant.
  • Support the SNV team in preparing our participation in key meetings and events, organised within the framework of our EU Delegated Cooperation efforts. Prepare briefing notes and presentations as relevant.

Qualifications

  • Degree in international development, international relations, political science, economics, or a related field.
  • Over 3-5 years of experience working in international development cooperation for bi-lateral/multi-lateral institutions such as the EC or international NGOs.
  • Proposal development skills and business development skills
  • Proven experience and understanding of the European Union and its institutions, processes and policies, and knowledge of European funding mechanisms.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a solid track record of networking and developing effective relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Good verbal and excellent written communication skills in both English and French. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
