About the Project and the Role.

SNV is currently implementing a component of Security Protection and economic empowerment project (SUPREME) in a consortium of 4 development organisations in West Nile region of Uganda with funding support from the European Union. Under SNV SUPREME component, the project will work with private sector businesses to implement inclusive business models that provide benefits for members of Savings and Development Clusters (SDCs) by providing business development services and challenge grants investments. It is against this that the project is looking for qualified Project Manager to manage the project.

Job Description

SNV is seeking to recruit the services of a Project Manager (PM). The major responsibilities of this position are:

Project Management

  • Leads, manages, and motivates the project team, partners, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Plans and assigns deliverables and activities, reviews their progress and addresses deviations in terms of timelines and quality, based on project planning, deliverables agreed and budget set.
  • Manages project closure and evaluation process including hand-over of complete and up-to-date project file to the Country Director and Business Development unit based on project management procedures.

 Project quality assurance

  • Takes responsibility for the (technical) content of a project, ensures quality of the deliverables, and ensures sufficient technical input to meet the quality standards.

Contract Management & Project Accounting

  • Manages and accounts for full compliance of administrative, finance and HR components of the project with SNV internal procedures and requirements specified in the donor-, sub-grant-, sub-consultancy-, partner-, consortium- and Local Capacity Builders contracts.
  • Ensures security and (financial risk) mitigation (incl. due diligence)

People Management & Team Leadership

  • Guides, develops, coaches, and motivates team members and prepares resource estimation based on forecast to attract and recruit (SNV staff, consultants and/or Local Capacity Builders). Advises HR and country management on contract conditions for consultants and Local Capacity Builders, within guidelines and project budget.

 Business development

  • Builds and maintains effective relationships, with team, external partners, and the donor(s) by ensuring a high level of SNV visibility and branding. Signals and acts on potential for positioning, innovation, upscaling, and potential follow up on projects.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Ensures collection, consolidation, and review of project information, according to SNV’s monitoring and evaluation guidelines.
  •  Analyses and provides advice to management how to incorporate the new insights/best practices into the organisation’s policies and practices.

 Knowledge Development

  • Contributes to internal and external knowledge development, by full documentation and sharing of project insights and results.

 

Qualifications

  • Relevant advanced academic qualification at master’s level; a post graduate qualification in project management is added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible work experience in implementing relevant development projects at technical level preferably in sectors of Agriculture, WASH and Energy.
  • 5 years’ experience successfully managing a project of not less than 1 million USD or EUR. Experience with multi-country projects and consortium is a plus.
  • Solid experience in project management, Experience with managing EU funded project is a bonus.
  • Solid technical knowledge of inclusive business models or social enterprises
  • Experience with grant or challenge fund management is a plus  
  • Able to strategically lead, inspire and energise project teams.
  • Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation aspects of a project.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing partnership with private business companies
  • Excellent social and networking skills with different kinds of stakeholders
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong organizational skills who takes individual accountability seriously.
  • Strong strategic decision-making and excellent communication skills (written and oral) including reporting and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.

Additional Information

Terms of Appointment

  • This is a full-time position based in Arua, Uganda. The contract duration is 2 years, with possibility of extension. The desired starting date is January 1, 2023. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, including a competitive secondary benefits package.
