Job Description
The Climate Resilient Agribusiness For Tomorrow – East Africa (CRAFT-EA) Programme is a 5-year, € 39 million project being implemented in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The project uses an inclusive Business Development approach to support the international and Dutch efforts on climate change and sustainable production in arable farming. The programme will work with and through the private sector and supports public sector partners in creating an institutional environment for wide-scale adoption of CSA-practices. It is driven by 3 pillars:
- adoption of CSA practices & technologies in arable crop production farming systems;
- acceleration of investments and business growth in selected value chains;
- improved enabling environment for scaling out of CSA.
Interventions are centred on business cases which are derived from a thorough climate risk assessment and financial analysis of value chains in pulses, oilseeds, potatoes, and grains. A climate smart business case matching grant facility aims to further improve access to finance and facilitate scaling. The programme is implemented by a consortium consisting of SNV, Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the CGIAR research programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), Agriterra and Rabobank, and is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGIS).
Assignment description
The overall objective of this assignment is to support collection, analysis, use and dissemination of the information from the field that enables the tracking of progress in response to climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts implemented by the CRAFT project in partnership with business champions. To achieve this the data consultant will:
- To conduct the analysis and validation of data recorded by CRAFT partners in the M&E database.
- Support data cleaning and collation of farmer databases as submitted by business champion(s) into the CRAFT provided farmer group and farmer upload templates.
- Support the recording of data into the M&E database based on records of farmer groups, training, and service provision as provided by the CRAFT partners.
- Contribute to the improvement of data quality collected by the CRAFT project through carrying data checks on the MIS database.
- Support the agronomy team to review and confirm that all planned CSA trainings have been completed and recorded in the CRAFT MIS.
Deliverables
- Ensuring that farmer registers and farmer group list that are complete, without duplicates and validate on M&E database
- Training and service provision records that are complete, without duplicates and validated on the M&E database.
- Making recommendation on/about database entries that require to be deleted for being incorrect, inaccurate and wrongly reported.
Qualifications
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in any field in agriculture /climate related / business / statistics or social sciences
- Demonstrate at least 2 years’ experience in carrying out a similar assignment on data recording, validation and analysis.
- Intermediate /advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel) for data cleaning and analysis (this will be tested)
- Knowledge on use of mobile based data collection tools ODK, Kobo collect is be preferred.
Additional Information
Supervision and reporting
The data consultant will work under the supervision of the M&E Advisor, at CRAFT project level and while providing services directly to the agronomy team. The consultant may from time to time be required to support other project team members with data entry and analysis.
Duration
The assignment will be for an initial period of 3 months from 1 April 2022 to 30 June 2022.
Duty Station
The data consultant(s) will be station at the CRAFT project office in Nairobi. Where deemed necessary the consultants will be required to travel to the CRAFT partner offices to offer on-site support. For all travel out of the CRAFT project office, the project will cater for the costs as per SNV policies and procedures.
