Company Description

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation in Zimbabwe is recruiting for an incumbent to fill the role of Project Driver in Masvingo to support the Zambuko project.

SNV is implementing the Zambuko Livelihood Initiative project in Masvingo and Mwenezi districts of Masvingo Province. The objective of the project is to strengthen and diversify livelihoods among poor Zimbabweans vulnerable to recurrent crises. The project seeks to improve smallholder production, the governance of community resources, and access to finance and markets, and to strengthen and expand on-farm and off-farm livelihood opportunities. As a result, households will be less vulnerable to recurrent crisis as assets are better utilized and incomes increase. This projects also strengthens social cohesion, integrate nutrition, and empower women and youth. Zambuko leverages on ongoing asset-creation activities funded by USAID - FFP and others and build livelihood capacities to complement these investments, creating a holistic package of support, resulting in durable resilience impacts for economic growth. The project represents medium-term transition support for households, to help them graduate from humanitarian assistance and pave the way to sustainable livelihoods.

SNV is the leading partner in the establishment Village Savings and Loans (VSL) groups, fostering financial behavior change through financial education training, development of smallholder farmers’ capacity to access financial and output markets and the promotion of Post-Harvest Handling and Storage technologies to reduce post-harvest losses.

 

Job Description

Vehicle operations and Safety

Have end responsibility for use of car, clean and fuel vehicle, check inventory (e.g. first aid kit, second tire etc.) and status of the vehicle, identify any damage and report these to supervisor, arrange and keep track of periodical service schedule and insurance,

Driving

Drive passengers or deliver errands within the identified areas, following the traffic regulations, safety instructions and situations and based on the travel arrangements of the passengers and/or delivery requirements. Ability to use onboard equipment such as 4x4, radios or winches.

Technical Maintenance

Regularly check and maintain the main maintenance areas (e.g. oil, tire pressure etc.), identify technical malfunctions, check potential repair alternatives, initiate repairs to the vehicles in consultation with the supervisor in case of complex and/or costly repair

Administration

Keep logbook of all driving activities, fuel and any incidents and accidents. Ensure insurances and licences of vehicles are up to  date.

Additional activities

Execute activities to support others based on request, like assist in logistic activities, or support in maintenance of building.

Planning and Coordination

Plan transport, contact suppliers and garages for maintenance and services, ensure valid insurances for fleet and check and document valid driver license of all persons driving SNV Vehicles

Qualifications

  • 5‘O’ level.
  • Valid Defensive Driver’s Certificate.
  • Minimum of a valid class 4 driving license.
  • Knowledge of operations of four-wheel drive driven vehicles (4x4).
  • Five (5) years’ experience in similar organization/ NGO working environment.
  • Good Written and spoken English.
  • Able to pass SNV driving test.
