SNV, Netherlands Development Organization, is a Dutch-based, non for profit foreign charity operating in Ethiopia since the 1970s. Currently, SNV is working in the eight+ regional states of Ethiopia which include– Addis Ababa, Afar, Somali, Gambella, Benishangul, SNNPR, Oromia, Amhara and Tigray regional states, providing technical assistance and program implementation in the major 3 sectors including Agriculture, WASH, and Energy. SNV is an open and learning organization that focuses on improving the lives of Ethiopian Need people through best practices in value chain, market, and youth and gender. Through its work in the three sectors, SNV in Ethiopia supports the development of a number of value chains and commodities to improve the Livelihoods. This takes a value chain and market development approach, with special focus on improving access to sustainable markets for smallholder farmers, youths, urban development and by developing business-to-business relations and improving business development services. 

Project Background 

Overall, 2SCALE program targets 750,000 small holder farmer groups (50% of them women).  In its Youth Terms of Inclusion specifically, 2SCALE aims at improved livelihoods of out of school youth through youth mainstreaming in 2SCALE partnerships for 300,000 youth (40% of 2SCALE target).  As well, youth focused decent and profitable self-employment and entrepreneurship for 8,000 youth and 1,000 Micro and Small Enterprises (of the 8,000) established in off-farm businesses in agriculture value chains. This entails that part of the 8,000 youth will find informal employment in the 1,000 new youth led enterprises.

Job Description

The Youth Inclusion Specialist, based in Addis Ababa, is responsible for steering the youth inclusion agenda in Ethiopia and Kenya. The Youth Inclusion Specialist Ethiopia/Kenya is supervised by and reports to the Leader of the Youth Inclusion Team and work closely with 2SCALE Country Team Leaders in Ethiopia and Kenya.  Youth Inclusion Specialist will also work in close collaboration with all 2SCALE colleagues in Ethiopia and Kenya and  will also collaborate with Partnership Facilitators and Thematic Specialists based in-country and in other 2SCALE focus countries.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in development studies, Business Studies, Economics Studies, Agricultural Sciences, Agribusiness, or Agricultural Economics.

Work Experience

  • Prior 5 years working in private sector development and engagement, youth savings, financial services and lending schemes will be an added advantage.

  • Experience in Agro-processing and Gender mainstreaming.

  • A good understanding of the cultural barriers affecting young women efficacy and agency in developing countries.

  • Practical knowledge and know how of implementing employ ability and entrepreneurship programs with actors and stakeholders such as TVETs and other national government agencies.

Skills and competency required 

Strong interpersonal, leadership, planning and coordination skills.

  • Project management cycle know how is an added advantage.

  • Strong communication (written and oral), presentation and report writing skills.

  •  Fluency in English 

  • Problem analysis

  • Perseverance
