Mid/Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Web-first)

  • SMG Offices: 1300 Rte des Crêtes, 06560 Valbonne, France

Company Description

SMG Swiss Marketplace Group runs some of Switzerland's most-loved digital marketplaces. Our Sophia-Antipolis team builds Ricardo's digital products — a TypeScript web monorepo (multiple SPAs) backed by Go microservices in separate repositories.
We're a small team that ships fast, debates trade-offs openly, and cares about doing things right — not just getting things done. Work ebbs and flows: sometimes we're web-heavy, sometimes the squad needs more backend — you'll be part of both.

Job Description

What you'll do ️️️🛠️
Build features end-to-end — React/TypeScript in our web monorepo and changes in existing Go microservices when the feature needs it.
Own vertical slices — UI, API contract, backend implementation, tests, and production follow-up.
Ship on the web monorepo — orders, checkout, listing, shared packages, design-system and platform work
Contribute to Go services — extend and maintain existing services (separate repos); no prior Go required — we'll help you ramp up
Review and be reviewed — we take code reviews seriously; expect to give and receive honest feedback
Collaborate cross-functionally — Product, Design, mobile, and Backend peers (our squad is Go-first; Java exists elsewhere in the group — you might cross paths occasionally, not every day).
● Work AI-augmented — Cursor, Copilot, and similar tools are part of how we work; fast iteration and careful review.

Qualifications

What you bring 💻
Must-haves:

3–5 years shipping production web apps in React and TypeScript
Real backend experience — you've owned APIs and services in production (not only "called REST from the front")
● Comfortable in a large web codebase (monorepo, multi-app, or shared design system)
● You integrate front and back — schemas, errors, auth, idempotency, and "what happens when this fails"
● You can explain your design choices — in a PR, to a teammate, or in an interview
Good English — our team is international and English is our working language
Nice-to-haves:

Go already (bonus, not required) — most backend here is Go; strong Node, Java, Python, or Kotlin backgrounds are a great fit to learn Go with us
Marketplace, e-commerce, or high-traffic consumer products
Feature flags, analytics events, and i18n (e.g. Phrase)
Open-source or side projects that show full-stack craft

You'll thrive here if... ✅

● You're strong on the web and genuinely want to keep writing backend code, not delegate it away
● You're fine with uneven weeks — deep in React one sprint, in Go services the next
● You can build a feature without waiting for a spec on every line
● You're comfortable saying "I think there's a better way" and backing it up
● You care about code quality and shipping — not one at the expense of the other

This role isn't for you if... 🚫

● You want frontend-only or backend-only — we need both, with a web-first home base
● You haven't shipped to production in the last 2 years
● You need full remote — this role is 2 days per week on site in Sophia-Antipolis (Valbonne)
● You treat AI-generated code as ready to merge without review

Additional Information

What we offer 🤝

Hybrid work: 2 days in office per week, up to 3 days from home — you choose
which office days
37 days off: 25 holidays + 12 recovery days
Learning budget: Conferences, courses, books — invest in yourself (including Go if that's new to you)
Great gear: MacBook Pro, ergonomic setup, and all the coffee and tea you need ☕
Swiss trips: Regular visits to our Zurich HQ
Team culture: Apéros, team events, and people who actually like working together

Hiring process 📆

We believe hiring is a two-way street. Here's what to expect:

1. Intro call with Sébastien (45 min) — role, how we balance web vs backend, your
questions
2. Design session (45 min) — how you'd approach a real product slice across web
monorepo and Go services
3. Coding session (60 min) — practical work in React/TypeScript plus discussion of
backend design (Go welcome, not mandatory in the room)
4. Team fit & HR (90 min) — meet the squad, discuss logistics

Location: You need to be commutable to Valbonne (Sophia-Antipolis) with a valid workpermit. Full remote is not available.

Ready? 🚀
Send your CV in English and let's talk. Include GitHub or examples of work that shows web + backend — even if backend was Node, Java, Python, or Kotlin; we'll teach you the Go we use day to day.
