Job Description

NOTE:  This position may share time between 2 locations.  Kent, WA and Tumwater, WA;  Compensation starting $30/hr. plus depending on experience.

General Purpose:

Assist with the planning and execution of tests and data recording; maintain lab equipment and machinery.

 Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Maintain lab machinery, equipment and assist with keeping the lab safe, clean, and orderly.

·         Execute tests, data recording and status documentation.

·         Use diagnostics techniques for troubleshooting, repair or replace various types of hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical equipment used to conduct tests.

·         Design, manufacture, and assemble test stands and equipment

·         Assemble prototype machines and document modifications and changes with minimal supervision.

·         Assemble, dismantle test equipment and machines, relocate and reassemble in new configurations with minimal supervision.

·         Participate in developing testing procedures along with planning, scheduling and time commitments.

·         Perform routine administrative tasks such as equipment/materials/parts ordering and tracking

·         Expedite buying and receiving of hardware

·         Mentor other lab technicians as required.

·         Participate in technology transfer to manufacturing.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and varying levels of responsibility.

·         Must be self motivated and be able to recognize when guidance or direction is needed.

·         Ability to assess system functions and troubleshoot problems as they arise.

·         Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing and all related fittings and piping connections.

·         Skilled in the use of mechanics tools and precision measuring equipment

·         Able to understand basic electrical circuits and connections.

·         Knowledge of the principles of operation of X – Y servo motors, drives and software controls.

·         Ability to interpret drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to complete work assignments.

·         Knowledge of testing methodologies, instrumentation and data recording.

·         Familiarity with general manufacturing principles.

·         Good engineering analytical judgment with familiarity of engineering principles.

·         Knowledge of electrical safety in an environment of high power use.

·         Ability to write test reports.

·         Knowledgeable in the use of PC’s and basic use of MS Office Suite.

·         Must be flexible and adaptive to changing priorities and workflow.

 Equipment Used:  Mechanic’s hand and power tools; basic machinist tooling; lifting equipment; PC’s; measuring devices (e.g., micrometers); digital and analog instrumentation; data recorders; microscopes, electric and engine powered forklifts.

Interface: Engineering and Manufacturing departments, some customer interface.

Education, Training and/or Experience:

·         Two year technical degree, or equivalent experience and training.

·         Minimum four (4) years journey level experience as an industrial equipment mechanic.  Preferably in a lab setting.

·         Minimum (2) years experience in a manufacturing environment.

·         Prior machinist work and welding a plus.

·         Prior work with 3 phase power and motor controls a plus.
