Job Description

General Purpose:

Performs complex machining operations in support of manufacturing activities from a variety of rough sketches or drawings that serve as input.  Work is completed under minimal direction and/or guidance of the department Lead.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Working from drawings and engineering instructions, build to specification parts, tools or fixtures for development, model shop or prototype projects.

·         Set up and operate any type of precision machine tools to make original parts, tools, mechanisms, and devices for production purposes.

·         Executes assignments using manual and CNC mills and lathes and other available tooling.

·         Solve problems relative to work-holding arrangements, unusual materials, machine settings, tools, product specifications and methods for production process.

·         Design and construct temporary tools, dies, jigs and fixtures needed to produce experimental parts.

·         Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions using precision measuring tools.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         Solid working knowledge of advanced shop mathematics.

·         High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

·         Good oral communication skills.

·         Ability to operate centerless OD and surface grinding and honing equipment.

·         Ability to work independently and function effectively in a team environment.

·         High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None.

Education and/or Training:

·         High school diploma or equivalent.

·         Minimum of eight (8) years of machining experience, with a minimum of two (2) years at Journey level.
