Job Description

The Systems Integrator will be responsible for the design of machine control software and the programming of automation system. You will be required to program a variety of PLCs, HMIs (both standalone and PC based), Robots, Servo Systems, Vision Systems and various other devices.

You will use your training and knowledge of industrial control system standards and all safety standards and codes to maintain a high level of professionalism that meets or exceeds all current national and regional requirements. 

You will have shared responsibilities to the company for the commercial success of the projects you are involved in. Working with the Project Manager you have the responsibility to advise the Project Manager about any potential cost overruns or savings and any potential scope creep you become aware of.  

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design, program, test and commission of automation instrumentation and control systems
  • Prepare technical documents and design specifications for control systems and installations
  • Write reports, user and maintenance manuals, procedures and qualification protocols
  • Work in collaboration with Electrical Designers and Mechanical Engineers for all projects
  • Work within the defined schedule estimates.
  • Involvement in controls projects, programming, motion, communication systems, electrical design, vision systems, and robotic integration
  • Manage project duties, specifying, ordering (if required), creating and maintaining punch lists, attending review meetings and undertaking and / or giving training courses.
  • Represent the organization in a professional and mature matter
  • The design and development of database and interface applications that integrate our clients’ control systems with our customer’s production and data management systems.
  • The programming and combination of various automation technologies (robots, vision systems, PLCs, HMIs, etc.) into highly integrated systems.
  • Working with project management colleagues to ensure that projects are completed on time, on budget and to the highest levels of safety and quality.
  • Travel to commission and support systems at customer facilities

    • Solid knowledge with
      • PLC’s (Allen Bradley, RX Logix 5000, 500, Siemens)
        • Knowledge in Siemens, Mitsubishi and Omron an asset
      • HMI’s (RS Studio)
      • Vision Systems (Cognex, Keyence, Omron)
      • Robot Programming (Fanuc and Motoman)

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technologist diploma or Electro/Mechanical diploma
    • Three (3) to eight (8) years of relevant industry experience (preference will be given to those with material handling or automotive background in systems integration)
