As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will work closely with the Instrumentation Project Manager to deliver innovative gas sampling and analytical systems. You'll be involved in all stages of project delivery, including design, procurement, build, commissioning, and customer support, while collaborating with stakeholders across the global SGS network to drive business growth and technical excellence.

As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering innovative gas analysis and instrumentation projects from concept through to completion. Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and deliver small, medium, and large-scale instrumentation and gas analysis projects.
• Design, build, install, and commission bespoke gas sampling, analyser, and CEMS systems, including hazardous area (ATEX) applications.
• Develop engineering documentation, including design specifications, drawings, wiring diagrams, validation protocols, test documentation, and commissioning reports.
• Provide technical expertise and support to SGS engineers, affiliates, and customers globally.
• Manage on-site installation and commissioning activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
• Develop control and automation strategies, with an understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, RS232, analogue and digital signals.
• Work within regulated pharmaceutical and industrial environments, ensuring compliance with GMP and relevant industry standards.
• Support calibration, testing, and analytical activities, including the application of standards such as the European Pharmacopoeia.
• Build expertise in gas analysis technologies and process applications across a range of industries, including pharmaceuticals, energy, industrial gases, semiconductors, and brewing.
• Identify opportunities for business growth, support proposal development, and collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Champion a strong safety culture and uphold SGS's commitment to integrity, quality, equality, and professional conduct.

• Level 7 or level 8 Engineering Degree. Preferably an Instrumentation and Electrical Engineer or Instrumentation & Control Engineer
• Pharmaceutical industry experience
• Electrical / Instrumentation qualification and background
• Knowledge of process systems
• Hazardous area experience and CompEx trained
• Project lead experience
• Capable of managing and training apprentices
