Lab Technician - Radiocarbon Dating Lab

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized candidate with experience in laboratory work for a position in our Data Entry/Sample Pretreatment department at our Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory in Miami, FL. In this role, you will play a critical part in our laboratory operations involving sample data and preparing materials for radiocarbon analysis. You will work in a fast-paced scientific environment where precision and efficiency are essential to delivering accurate dating results for our clients.

  • Perform accurate data entry of radiocarbon dating samples into laboratory databases and tracking systems, ensuring all information is recorded correctly and completely
  • Conduct sample pretreatment procedures following established laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures
  • Prepare and organize samples for analysis, including cleaning, weighing, and packaging according to specifications
  • Monitor sample inventory and organize storage systems to ensure efficient retrieval and tracking
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in sample pretreatment, including proper calibration and cleaning procedures
  • Assist in troubleshooting data discrepancies and sample handling issues in collaboration with senior laboratory staff
  • Support the laboratory team in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding sample status, processing timelines, and any issues that arise

Qualifications

  • Proven experience with data entry, demonstrating high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment, with familiarity in handling scientific samples and materials
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills with the ability to manage multiple samples simultaneously
  • Proficiency with computer systems and laboratory software applications
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols and procedures consistently and accurately
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks and handle laboratory materials safely
  • Preferred: Experience with radiocarbon dating, radiometric analysis, or similar archaeological/geological laboratory work
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
  • Preferred: Background knowledge in biology, chemistry, geology, or related scientific disciplines
  • Preferred: Experience with scientific instrumentation and analytical equipment
