Job Description
- Execute inspection tasks in accordance with detailed instructions provided by the Section Head, Operations Manager, Department Manager, or Reporting Manager.
- Review job files and relevant documentation prior to inspection to ensure all requirements and resources are in place.
- Conduct site visits for inspection or testing activities as required.
- Perform and/or lead inspections in compliance with client specifications, applicable standards, and internal procedures.
- Prepare accurate draft and final inspection reports in a timely manner.
- Review and validate final reports to ensure completeness and accuracy before submission to clients.
- Assist the Operations Manager in job scheduling, manpower planning, and coordination of inspection activities.
- Support the Reporting Manager in maintaining and developing client relationships, including participation in client meetings and follow-ups.
- Manage the issuance, execution, and documentation of job instructions, including control of special operations.
- Contribute to the development and training of team members to build technical competencies.
- Ensure all inspection operations are conducted in compliance with client health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements.
- Uphold the implementation and compliance of the department's Quality Management System in line with ISO/IEC 17020, 17025, and relevant accreditation body requirements (MPOB, GAFTA, FOSFA, NIOP, SAMM), where applicable.
- Adhere strictly to SGS Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and promote a safe working culture.
- Carry out any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Reporting Manager or Senior Management.
Qualifications
- Diploma or equivalent qualification in Agriculture, Agricultural Science, Engineering (related to agronomy or commodities), or certifications such as IFIA, MPOB, MCB or relevant inspection standards.
- 8–12 years of hands-on inspection experience in agricultural commodities (e.g. palm oil, grains, oilseeds, sugar, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of inspection procedures, sampling techniques, and international trade standards applicable to agricultural products.
- Experience in supervising field inspections and coordinating on-site teams across ports, warehouses, and client premises.
- Proven leadership capabilities with a practical approach to fieldwork and team support.
- Excellent understanding of quality, quantity, and compliance checks aligned with contractual and Letter of Credit (LC) requirements.
- A team player with strong accountability, adaptability, and client-focused mindset.
