We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Technician to join our Portsmith team and support the accurate, timely preparation and analysis of soil and water samples. About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will help keep our laboratory operations running smoothly by preparing samples, supporting routine analysis, maintaining equipment, and following established quality and safety procedures. You will work with a supportive team while developing your technical skills through hands-on experience and ongoing training.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare soil and water samples with care, accuracy and attention to detail.
• Support routine laboratory analysis in line with quality standards and procedures.
• Understand and apply QA/QC requirements, including NATA accreditation expectations.
• Carry out scheduled equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Keep the laboratory clean, organised and contamination-free.
• Follow all SGS health, safety, environment and quality procedures.
• Report hazards, equipment issues or unsafe conditions promptly.

About you

• You hold a relevant tertiary qualification or TAFE certificate.
• You have experience in a general laboratory environment, or a strong interest in developing your laboratory career.
• You are organised, reliable and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
• You bring a flexible approach to tasks and working hours.
• You communicate clearly and take pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work.
• You have knowledge of laboratory equipment maintenance or a willingness to learn.
