Job Description

Primary Responsibilities    

  • Aid the National Laboratory Manager in overseeing daily technical laboratory operations and technical resources needed in ensuring the production of accurate and timely test results in accordance with the management system and applicable standards

Specific Responsibilities   

  • Ensures efficient and systematic workflow of laboratory operations from staff work performance, compliance with the customer requirements, established standard and system procedures conformance with established quality objectives and plans in the absence of Laboratory Manager.
  • Performs various administrative duties that include, but are not limited to, training/coaching analysts, assigning/delegating work, and monitoring lab analysts’ compliance with standard test methods, established company policies, quality procedures and work instructions in the absence of Laboratory Manager.
  • In the absence of the Laboratory Manager, authorizes personnel to receive and register samples; to conduct testing; to development, modify, verify and validate methods; to analyze results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations; to report, review and authorize of results.
  • Signs service proposals, test reports/certificates and cost of analysis in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
  • In the absence of the Laboratory Manager, approves requests for laboratory supplies, overtime reports and leave applications of staff with valid reasons.
  • Directly supervises the laboratory analysts, information processor and laboratory aides on daily routine jobs
  • Performs order review and acknowledgement accurately on a timely manner.
  • Attends to customer’s queries and/or job requests relating to laboratory.
  • Coordinates and discusses details of customer’s instructions/requirements to direct subordinates.
  • Delegate work assignments of direct subordinates.
  • Implements, updates and trains subordinates on technical updates such as revisions in standard test methods.
  • Ensures that all equipment being used in the laboratory are within its calibration/verification period and in good working conditions.
  • Ensures sufficient stocks of all laboratory needs/supplies for smooth laboratory operations.
  • Ensures correct and accurate reporting of test results and timely transmit of test reports/certificates.
  • Checks and signs test report sheets and certificate of analysis.
  • Performs technical/laboratory jobs in the absence of his/her subordinates.
  • Ensures the customer complaints, audit findings and Non-Conformance Request are addressed with efficient service quality investigation, timely, appropriate root cause identification and effective corrective action.
  • Recommendatory authority on corrective action for staff misconduct involving penalties of up to five (5) working days.
  • Ensures that the requirements of the relevant international standards are implemented, maintained and regularly reviewed for continuing effectiveness for improvement.
  • Ensures that established quality objectives and plans for laboratory are implemented, measured, monitored and reviewed on regular basis to ensure compliance, suitability and adequacy.
  • Operating to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned to achieve respective section’s goals or for own personal, or professional training, education or development as programmed by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with professional license and/or
  • Minimum of five (5) years technical laboratory working experience in petroleum industry and/or three (3) years supervisory experience in petroleum industry.

  • Excellent interactive and communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to effectively present information and reply to questions from customers and/or regulatory agencies pertaining to the activities carried out by the team and in recommending remedial or action items for improvements, as needed.
