Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Laboratory Manager to lead the efficient operation of our Environmental laboratory at Perth Airport, ensuring client turnaround times, quality, and safety KPIs are consistently met. This is a key leadership role that combines operational management, staff development, and strategic planning to drive laboratory performance.
What you will do:
- Manage laboratory operations to meet budget targets, controlling operational costs effectively.
- Ensure client results are delivered on time in accordance with national KPIs.
- Plan and organise production schedules, including work and task allocation.
- Ensure all results reported to clients are accurate and advise the client services team if deadlines cannot be met.
- Collaborate with the client services team to deliver exceptional service to internal and external clients.
- Maintain the highest quality standards, ensuring the laboratory remains compliant with ISO 17025 requirements.
- Oversee daily laboratory production by coordinating with section team leaders to meet turnaround times.
- Implement operational improvements to enhance laboratory performance, including introducing new services where needed.
- Work with technical staff and the Quality Manager to update, validate, and improve laboratory methods.
- Participate actively in quality system processes, including calibrations and internal audits.
- Develop cross-training plans to build a multi-skilled, flexible workforce and support staff development.
- Prepare and implement strategic plans for growth, including business plans, management controls, and KPIs.
Qualifications
About You:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant Science discipline.
- Proven experience in managing an environmental laboratory.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Strong computer literacy across all MS Office applications.
- Comprehensive understanding of Food, Pharmaceutical, and Environmental third-party contractor operations.
