Job Description
Primary responsibilities:
Perform third-party inspection of petroleum and chemical products at various terminals on quality and quantity control of bulk liquid cargoes. Ensure that company objectives are achieved in carrying out inspections at the highest quality and service levels.
Specific responsibilities:
Undertake training of new trainees in chemical inspection within the division as assigned by management.
Assist senior surveyors in reviewing job files prior to inspection, ensuring everything is complete and in order.
Carry out proper reference sampling of various liquid and gas cargoes.
Perform inspection of loading, unloading, and transshipment of chemical bulk liquid products and gas tankers.
Inspect shore tanks, ships’ tanks, related pumps, and lines for cleanliness, performing wall washes when required.
Measure shore tanks and ships’ tanks to ascertain volumes and weights of cargo according to SGS standard calculation methods.
Take action to prevent possible contamination during loading or unloading and reconcile any variances.
Record all timings and occurrences during loading or unloading, issue NOAD or LOP to Chief Officer or Terminal, and inform operational staff of deviations, discrepancies, or contamination.
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of all necessary tools, instruments, and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
Check with Port Operations, agents, and terminals for arrival and berthing status of vessels.
Check draft field reports, organize them, and submit to Business Manager or Assistant Business Manager accurately and timely. Maintain good communication skills, both orally and in writing, to report results of findings.
Keep Business Manager or Assistant Business Manager updated on daily activities, including special circumstances or problems encountered during inspection.
Maintain all equipment, apparatus, and bicycles used in good working condition.
Assist in daily operations as required and perform any other responsibilities as assigned by management.
Perform work in accordance with SGS OGC Standard Procedures and Local Procedures.
Qualifications
Requirements:
GCE ’O’ Levels.
Able to work long and irregular hours.
Able to work offshore when required.
Ability to write reports on results of findings.
Independent and able to coordinate several activities simultaneously.
Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of management, affiliates, suppliers and clients.
Ability to work well under pressure, fast and decisive.
Able to coordinate and be a team member towards a common goal.
Good command of the English language (spoken and written).
