Job Description
This is a full-time position for an Intermediate Analytical Technologist based out of the Katwijk, NL regional office. The primary responsibilities of this position are equipment maintenance, project preparation, performing lab analysis duties in the regional office and performing sampling and analysis duties in the field.
This position requires significant international travel throughout (but not limited to) Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Onsite projects typically last from three to ten days (including travel), and applicants should expect to spend up to half the year on assignment. Applicants should be comfortable working in a wide range of climates and in areas where there may be significant cultural differences. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing field test tasks including sample point preparation, sample collection and analysis, data interpretation
- Participate in project planning sessions.
- Clean, prepare and organize testing equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot testing equipment.
- Assist senior personnel with data interpretation and reporting.
- Provide general support and assistance to senior personnel.

Minimum requirements
- MBO-4 diploma in the direction of All-round Laboratory Technician or Chemical Physical Analyst or equivalent
- Netherlands Class B driver’s license or equivalent.
- Valid passport and ability to attain foreign work visas.
- Willingness to comply with the Sulphur Experts Health and Safety Program and the Drug and Alcohol Testing Program (where applicable)
- Extremely flexible work schedule, available to travel for periods of up to two weeks on short notice.
- Physically fit – this position occasionally requires climbing long staircases and ladders while carrying sampling equipment and wearing personal protective equipment such as coveralls, safety shoes, and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. Sample points may be in difficult to reach locations that may involve laying, sitting, or standing on ladders.
- Comfortable with the use of hand tools such as spanners, pliers, hammers, etc.
- The position requires the applicant to be exposed to industrial conditions. Although all employees receive extensive safety training, follow safe work procedures, and wear personal protective equipment, the conditions can expose the applicant to high noise, dust, chemicals, and gases.
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English, should be able to communicate technical terms related to the role in English.
Ideal candidates will have:
- 2+ years’ experience operating Gas Chromatographs (GCs) including plot integration. Ideally testing hydrocarbon gas samples in a refining or gas processing environment.
- Experience with Agilent GCs with emphasis on 7890 or 8890 Series models.
- Experience with TCD, FID, and FPD detectors.
- Experience with Ion Chromatography
- Demonstrated GC maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
Additional Information
The successful candidate should expect to spend minimum four weeks at our Calgary, Canada head office for training shortly after starting.
