Job Description

Our client, located in Yorkton, Saskatchewan is looking for a Senior Health and Safety (H&S) Advisor to work on one of their construction site.   As an H&S Advisor, you will be responsible for the overall safety practices, training, and safety management plan for the construction project.

Job Duties

  • Provide leadership to onsite project managers and all site employees.
  • Provide new hires with H&S orientation.
  • Perform daily inspections and correcting unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors.
  • Monitor H&S statistics and identify trends, report trends promptly and prepare action plans to promote continued improvement.
  • Actively participate in safety programs and other initiatives.
  • Attend and facilitate daily/weekly site safety meeting as required for site team.
  • Provide high level support for workplace inspections, focus audits and competency checks.
  • Administer site specific training for workers which would include all safe work procedures and practices.
  • Ensure that incidents are reported on time and investigated promptly.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in responding to workplace incidents or emergencies.
  • Analyze corrective actions from incident investigations as well maintain an up-to-date site corrective action log, ensure execution and effectiveness.
  • Leading/assisting with Incident Investigations.
  • Review H&S documentation (Policies, Procedures, etc.) and perform Gap Analysis and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Contribute to the production of H&S information, training, education, and awareness material for the site.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Emergency Procedures.
  • Maintain a high standard of safe working practice, quality, and productivity, and ensure compliance with the code of business conduct.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety is required.
  • CSO / NCSO designation would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a H&S advisor on a construction site.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety laws, codes of practice and standards applicable to the project and province.
  • Effective self-managing, good problem-solving skills, planning, organizing and priority setting skills combined with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer knowledge (MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
