Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Supervisor to join our team at SGS New Zealand in Westport, West Coast. 

This full-time role will be a hands-on role, analysing routine and non-routine environmental samples and ensuring accurate reporting.  In addition, you will provide the close-knit team with support to achieve their full potential. 

What you'll be doing

  • Assist with the management of analytical services and the technical aspects of the Westport laboratory including the LIMS
  • Assis with maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order and appropriately calibrated
  • Ensure all client demands are met as detailed in the various service contracts
  • To manage an effective and efficient laboratory service at the lowest possible cost
  • Ensure reporting deadlines are met
  • To work with the Laboratory Manager to maximise business returns whilst minimising exposure and risk for the company
  • Communicating to the appropriate staff and external clients as required
  • Comply with all SGS OH&S and all HR policies and procedures
  • To prepare and analyse samples in accordance with the standard operating procedures in the laboratory to ensure a high service level is maintained
  • Reporting of environmental data when required
  • Undertake all other relevant and reasonable work requests relevant to the position in consultation with the Laboratory Manager

Qualifications

  • A relevant tertiary qualification is an advantage
  • Analytical chemistry experience
  • Operational experience with IC analysis or related techniques
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role including the ability and experience in management reporting and checking technical data
  • Previous experience in general laboratory environment
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Fully understand the quality requirements of a modern industrial laboratory including the LIMS
  • Proven interpersonal skills including the ability to supervise and manage resourcing and dealing with people.
  • Previous experience in general laboratory environment.
  • Full New Zealand driving licence
