Job Description
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Technician in ICP-OES has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel.
RESPONISIBILITIES
- Responsibility to perform all ICP analysis.
- Responsibility to export the analyzed data
- Responsibility to evaluate and validate data.
- Responsibility to ensure turnaround time is adhered to, for work specified in regard to ICP chemical analysis.
- Responsibility, under the guidance of ICP Technician, to assist in the work required to validate any new methods or modifications made for ICP analysis.
- Responsibility to bring all problems (technical and managerial) to the attention of the ICP Technician
- Responsibility to adhere to quality protocols required for accreditation of ICP chemical analysis.
- Responsibility to adhere to all quality, health and safety rules and regulations.
- Responsibility to ensure that the housekeeping for general working area is kept up to standard.
- Complies and conforms to Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025)
- Responsibility to record any day-to-day repairs, maintenance, calibration and verification of instruments performed.
- Responsibility to ensure correct consumables and chemicals are used for ICP chemical analysis.
- Responsibility to work in other areas of the ICP laboratory, Analytical Services and/or Divisions if asked to do so.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager\
SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES
- Any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and serious way and to report such a situation. The employee has the responsibility to protect the environment as well.
- Has authority to cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard and/or work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to a higher authority to take action.
- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
Qualifications
Education
- National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and/or proven years of laboratory, knowledge, skills, and experience sufficient to be recognized as a qualification through – Recognition of Prior Learning.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory
- Able to perform various chemical techniques.
- Computer Literate (Microsoft Office)
- Experience in instrumentation, data collection and reporting.
- Fully acquainted with the SLIMS system (administration & operation)
Competencies
- Must have full understanding of the LIMS system
- Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System
