1. Main purpose of the Job
Lab Maintenace Technician is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation. documenting interaction with laboratory equipment, carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance keeping accurate laboratory records, and managing a laboratory’s inventory of supplies and materials. Investigate, diagnose, and correct measurement system problems. Maintain the electric power system.
2. Responsibilities
- Maintain all laboratory equipment.
- Give training on how to clean the equipment according to the quality management system.
- Maintain electric power system and able to solve electric power failure.
- Develop and maintain an inventory of spares and consumables.
- Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests and documents related processes
- Ensure calibration frequency is adhered to and certificates of calibration kept on file as proof of calibrations conducted.
- Keep a record of all equipment sent out for repairs, service and / or calibration.
- Train Analysts and Operators on first line maintenance.
- Travel within Mozambique for maintenance of all laboratory equipment.
- Follow the instructions given by management or relevant Technical Officer.
- Comply with Quality and Laboratory procedure and the policy.
- Ensure and adopt, always, a safe behavior by exercising due regard for the health and safety of SGS employees and clients, in line with SGS policies and procedures.
3. Operational Integrity

- Ensure team members comply with relevant procedures and work instructions.
- Ensure team members use correct templates and comply with ISO requirements.
- Work in accordance with ISO standards and requirements (17025,9001, 14001 and 45001
- Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Code of Integrity & Professional Conduct.
- Report all hazards, near misses and incidents.
- Always wear relevant PPE and comply with health and safety regulations.
- Participate in monthly safety talk with team members.
- Ensure that all waste produced by SGS is disposed of in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Optimize resources in order to protect the environment.
Habilitações
4. Education and Skills
- Degree in Engineering, Chemistry or other related qualification Completed Trade test, preferably in electrical / electronics field.
- Fluent in both English and Portuguese.
4.1 Capability and Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of experience of equipment maintenance in the production industry or factory.
- Recent experience within a laboratory is preferred.
- Good Verbal & Written skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Flexible, self-motivated, and enthusiastic.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Able to work effectively with minimal management guidance/supervision.
- Personal commitment to achieving high performance within the workplace.
- Goals and results orientated.
