Job Description

  • In conjunction with the business strategy set by the Laboratory Manager, responsible for the day to day metallurgical analysis / failure analysis department operation in execution, including reporting and invoicing, of all orders for the department in accordance with client requirements, industry standards, internal standards or policy directives. And to provide specialist technical support to sale/marketing program.
  • In charge of the metallurgical failure analysis department.  Manage and supervise sample preparation, laboratory examination of specimens, and provide expert consultation and analysis on failure mechanisms.  
  • Attending sites, interviewing, photographing, and collecting evidence, identifying samples for metallurgical failure analysis and investigation
  • Performing metallurgical sample preparation, macroscopic and microscopic examinations as well as failure analysis to establish the root cause of equipment or machinery failures.
  • Purvey metallurgical and material consultancy for clients from various industries including metallurgical and material consulting.
  • Integrate timely failure analysis reports for client products returned showing metallurgical results including root cause analysis and 8D analysis.
  • Effectively lead failure analysis by gathering supporting evidence through examination, photography, electron microscopy (SEM/EDX), metallography, mechanical testing, and chemical characterization.
  • Develop, manage, and deploy a confidential project lab.
  • Maintain and Enhance communication with existing clients to facilitate additional projects.
  • Maintain and Improvise the Quality Management System procedure for ISO compliance.
  • Successfully established a mechanical testing lab and develop the standard operating procedure (SOP).
  • Lead and Provide technical oversight and coach junior engineers.
  • Adherence to applicable Quality Management System by exercising necessary standard and process when carry out your responsibilities in executing, fulfilling and ensuring at all times the compliance of the QMS and is fully implemented in accordance to ISO 17020 & MIBAS policy, 17065 & ACB policy and ISO17025 & SAMM policy"(where applicable/required).
  • Adherence to SGS Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policy by uphold a good safety behavior and exercising necessary standard and process when carry out your responsibilities at all times to ensure compliance to the HSE requirements.
  • Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by immediate superior and/or department manager.

Qualifications

  • Experience in laboratory application / engineering related application
  • Knowledge and experience in ISO 9001, 17020, 17025 & 17065 (where applicable)
    • Strong metallurgical and / or chemical background or similar experience with a proven track record and certification levels to demonstrate proficiency in test methods.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in metallurgical analysis and failure analysis in any industries
    • Minimum certification required:
      • Bachelor engineering in Material Science, Material Engineering or Chemical Engineering from recognized university.
      • National Association of Corrosion Engineer (NACE)
      • Master’s degree or PHD in related field would be added advantage
