Job Description
Our East Syracuse, NY laboratory is looking for a supervisor to join their Pumps & Media and Smart Sense groups! The Supervisor, Monitoring Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations of their respective department. They work with Team Leads to manage equipment throughput (24/7 - 365) by ensuring on-time delivery and full compliance with quality standards for functionality and order requirement(s). They are responsible for promoting a safe working culture and environment throughout the department. The Supervisor, Monitoring Services will lead by example and ensure the work performed within the department is completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner and is in compliance with SGS' Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Job Functions
- Coordinates with Team Lead, where appropriate, to actively manage daily workflow through the department to ensure highest quality product and shipment/due dates are met
- Ensures effectiveness of quality management systems specific to each type of equipment, constantly assessing the need for improvement
- Interacts directly with clients and facilitates solutions for immediate field support
- Ensure timely, high-quality responses to all client inquiries, through client service team
- Relentlessly finds ways to improve the client experience - through root cause analysis and corrective action of errors, through process review and preventative action to reduce potential/risk of errors occurring, and through review of client suggestions/feedback
- Ensures quality and effectiveness of in-house training program, identifies external training opportunities/needs, monitors each team members skill development and develops individual training/growth plans to support the needs of the company and aligns with the needs/desires of the employee
- Demonstrates good leadership through effective planning, delegating and empowering subordinates appropriately, and leading by example
- Stays abreast of new technologies/new vendors and performing assessments to support investment opportunities
- Ensures the department’s equipment and operating supply inventory is consistently appropriate for current workload – submitting cost justifications for replacing equipment that has reached end of life/retired and for adding equipment due to growth of client demand
- Develops and maintains relationships with instrumentation providers/vendors towards advance notice of what they are working on for new instrumentation, updates to current instrumentation, troubleshooting/service needs, pricing/volume discounts, etc.
- Actively promotes a strong culture of a safe working environment
- Upholds safety requirements for work performed and ensures that all team members adhere to the same standards. Immediately addresses department safety concerns as they arise
- Performance management of all direct reports – weekly/bi-weekly meetings, development and follow through on group and individual goals, provide meaningful recognition, provide performance feedback on an ongoing basis, soliciting input/ideas and feedback from direct reports consistently and taking
- Keeps management informed of any potential errors or issues related to equipment, production, and staffing
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
- Associate degree and 2+ years of relevant work experience or High School/GED and 5+ years of relevant work experience (Required)
- Relevant work experience one or more of the following: general business principles, inventory management, order fulfillment, manufacturing, people management, customer service (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree (Preferred)
- 5+ years of relevant work experience (Preferred)
- Knowledge of environmental testing protocols, regulations, and certifications related to the department (Required)
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills (Required)
- Must have a solid understanding of process and workflow (Required)
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form (Required)
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations (Required)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization (Required)
- Exhibits high levels of energy and enthusiasm (Required)
- Demonstrates upmost level of integrity in all instances and shows respect towards others and towards company principles (Required)
- The ability to write and speak effectively using appropriate convention based on the situation; actively listens to others, asks questions to verify understanding and uses tact and consideration when delivering feedback to others (Required)
- Excellent time management skills which include the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines) and arrange the resources necessary to accomplish them (Required)
- Microsoft Office Suite (Required)
- Experience with LIMS (Preferred)
- Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull upwards of 40 lbs on an occasional basis (Required)
The pay range for this position is $50,000 - $65,000 (dependent on experience). This position is not eligible for overtime pay.
In addition, your compensation package includes the following benefits:
