Job Description
Summary
This position is responsible for the pickup and delivery of samples from SGS clients to SGS laboratory for testing. The Sample Management
Courier responsibilities are to receive samples, prepare bottle kits for clients, deliver samples to the labs, dispose of expired samples, and
work in shipping and receiving. The Sample Management Courier is responsible for following all health and safety procedures and
promoting a safe working environment throughout the department and the laboratory.
Job Functions
- Following a pre-defined route, pick up samples from clients for delivery to SGS labs.
- Establish and maintain good relations with SGS customers/clients by providing courteous, efficient and professional pick up service of samples, and delivery of sampling supplies in a safe and timely manner.
- Complete log sheet and obtain customer signature for chain of custody and billing purposes.
- Take the temperatures of the samples upon receipt
- Maintain company vehicle in good order and in a clean condition.
- Maintain a safe and satisfactory driving record.
- Complete SGS Defensive Driver training courses as required.
- Receives/unpacks sample coolers and containers and documents the receipt in an efficient and timely manner
- Verifies and records sample receipt temperatures
- Performs preservation checks on aqueous samples within various containers (i.e. 250ml, 500ml, 1000ml, etc.), not applicable to solvents, liquids, or malodorous samples
- Creates jobs, enters bottle records, and generates bottle labels using LIMS in accordance with chain of custody (COC)
- Applies sample labels to sample containers
- Transfers samples between sample reception, cold or ambient storage areas, and laboratory departments
- Ships sample coolers and packages
- Prepares client bottle kits
- Maintains all required documentation with accuracy and clarity
- Removes historical samples from completed jobs and assigns samples for disposal; disposes of expired samples
- Communicates sample information to Client Services team and lab operations to ensure timely
- Adheres to lab and sample management SOPs to ensure that proper sampling handling procedures are followed
- Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external clients
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma (Required)
- Valid drivers license (Required)
- Experience in an environmental laboratory (Preferred)
- Associate degree in a science-related field (Preferred)

- Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner (Required)
- Map reading, of formal maps (Required)
- Candidates must be personable and able to establish good relationships with clients (Required)

- Flexible work hours may be required from time to time (Required)
- Travel to other SGS locations or client location (Required)
