SGS Spijkenisse has recently expanded its location with a brand-new state-of-the-art Fire Assay laboratory. As a result, we are looking to strengthen our team to achieve our growth objectives. In this versatile job you will be challenged to roll up your sleeves and combine the rough work with precision and accuracy. You literally get in front of hot fires, where you learn to work with high-temperature ovens to make your liquid metals react. In addition, precision and accuracy is required when analyzing using gravimetry, AAS and ICP.

 

What exactly are you going to do?

  • Performing the Fire Assay analyses in accordance with the analysis regulations
  • Doing the first line and internal controls and taking action if necessary
  • The correct archiving of generated data
  • Compliance with safety, environmental and quality regulations.

Fire Assay analyses:

  • Fluxes: Composing the right chemicals and the correct amount of chemicals
  • Fusion: Concentrating precious metals in a button of lead
  • Cupellation: Separating precious metals from the lead button by oxidation
  • Parting: Separating gold and silver by dissolving silver to determine gold gravimetrically
  • AAS/ICP: Low concentrations of precious metals are determined using AAS and/or ICP.

Qualifications

The ideal Analyst for the Fire Assay laboratory meets the following criteria:

  • You have an associate degree (MBO-4) or higher
  • You are a EU citizen (we can’t sponsor a work visa for this position)
  • Laboratory education/experience is a plus, but not a hard requirement
  • You are able to do physical work (1000 degrees ovens)
  • Good command of the Dutch or English language.

 

Please note: you start in this position in the day shift, eventually you will work in 2 shifts.
