Junior Operations Executive (Laboratory Supervisor - Geochemisty)

Job Description

Primary Responsibilities    

§  Assists the Operations Executive in controlling and organizing the day-to-day technical operations of the laboratory to ensure compliance to SGS Global policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and various management system standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO/IEC 17025.  

 

Specific Responsibilities   

  • Assists in overseeing the technical laboratory activities and operations in accordance with the company policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and other international standards to which SGS subscribes.

§  Reviews specific laboratory procedures and results of method modification, verification, and validation.

  • Assists in ensuring the operational requirements and performance targets of the laboratory are achieved through proper manpower planning, work distribution, performance monitoring and reporting, resource allocation and equipment maintenance.
  • Prepares and updates reports related to the analyses performed.
  • Prepares, evaluates, and signs laboratory test reports.
  • Prepares and submits relevant monthly or quarterly statutory / regulatory reports
  • Conducts review of annual inventory requirement and submits the required bulk orders.
  • Coaches lab analysts and lab aides on the performance of test, analyses, and sample preparation.
  • Oversees the performance of the laboratory staff members.
  • Ensures that good housekeeping practices are observed, and laboratory activities comply with Company OI Manual & IMS.

 

 

  • Oversees various administrative duties such as but not limited to safekeeping laboratory documents like SDS, records of analyses, inventory of laboratory supplies and chemicals, and admin/logistical assistance to staff performance monitoring including giving of feedback to ensure they meet performance standards, providing training and/or disciplining staff when necessary.

§  Performs other related duties as may be assigned either in contribution to departmental goals or for his/her personal or professional training, education or development as programmed by his/her immediate superior.

  • Complies with the Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Energy (QHSEE) policies and supporting objectives including, but not limited to:

o   Demonstrates strong obligation to SGS QHSEE policies, procedures and work instructions by actively participating in meetings, projects and events, completes required training, intervenes in unsafe situations, refuses unsafe work, and complies fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to HSEE

o   Perform appropriately and immediately to emergency situations and assists other staff members in maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies within the workplace

o   Disposes or directs the disposal of waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with the disposal regulations and requirements, and in accordance with SGS Environmental Management System requirements

o   Reports all incidents, including near misses and hazards, that may affect the achievement of QHSEE objectives in accordance with SGS Incident Reporting and Management requirements

o   Efficiently uses all equipment, including safety equipment, and company owned property in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to immediate superior

o   Maintains a safe and tidy worksite according to the organization’s 5S program and guidelines

o   Maintains awareness of the safety and health related hazards and environmental aspects and proposes action plans to control the risks to immediate superior or QHSEE Coordinators

o   Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by SGS management

o   Fulfills the requirements needed in the success of the QHSEE Management System

o   Recognizes the potential consequences of not following the established policies, procedures, and guidelines, including not fulfilling the organization’s compliance obligations

Qualifications

Profile

§  Registered Chemist (BS Chemistry, BS Biochemistry, BS Agrichemistry)

Required Skills

      Experience/Technical Knowledge

§  Minimum 4 years related experience in a laboratory set-up

§  Keyboard skills; skilled in the use of MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint

§  Core (Integrity, Work Standard, Customer Service Orientation, Communication), Professional/Technical Knowledge, Functional (Organization skill, Analysis/Problem Assessment, Attention to Details/ Quality orientation, and Judgment/ Problem-solving).

Language

§  Fluent in English and Filipino (both written and verbal)
