Job Description

Attend  to perform sampling and or  witness loading operations, write and submit reports. Incumbent will be required to prepare, package and courier samples to different laboratories. Review, calculate and interpret analysis results. Other duties maybe assigned when required.

  SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Witness and or manually take or  observe how samples are taken and direct the  personnel accordingly.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples
  • Deliver and ship samples to the Laboratory  
  • Observe sampling of other commodities following established protocols
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split and screen samples as required
  • Archive, return or dispose of client samples as per work sheet instructions
  • Log client samples into the system and prepare sample labels
  • Conduct basic testing and basic measurements in the field
  • Work from sketches, detailed specifications and verbal instructions
  • Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations
  • Carries out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of his/her supervisor
  • Interpret and evaluate all results
  • Compiles data, analyses and prepares reports
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies
  • Follow all Quality system protocols and report any discrepancies to the Supervisor
  • May be asked to work in other SGS areas when needed
  • Some independent judgement required

 

 

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Post-Secondary Education (degree or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry) is a strong asset
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a related industry a strong asset

REQUIRED SKILLS

 

  • Good hand eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment
  • Must have a valid drivers License (Class 5 Minimum) or equivalent from another province.
  • Candidate must can use various types of computer software (word, excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work well with others and independently
  • Works well under pressure
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
