Laboratory Analyst II (Geochemistry)
Reporting Line
§ This position reports to the respective section’s Operations Executives and/or Junior Operations Executives.
Primary Responsibilities
§ Performs analyses and reports test results according to SGS Global policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and various management system standards such as ISO 9000, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO/IEC 17025.
§ Assists in troubleshooting technical-related problems and coaching lab analysts I and lab aides.
Specific Responsibilities
§ Performs sampling, testing and analyses in accordance with the procedures.
§ Performs verification of prepared reagents and solutions.
§ Prepares and updates reports related to the analyses performed.
§ Operates and maintains equipment used in performing analyses.
§ Signs worksheets and other forms as required by procedures.
§ Assists JOE in checking, evaluating, reporting, signing, and sending of results of analysis.
§ Coaches lab analysts I and lab aides on the performance of test, analyses, and sample preparation.
§ Conducts troubleshooting of technical-related problems and suggests alternative solutions.
- Conducts monthly inventory and updates inventory records.
- Assists in the review and checking of all monitoring records.
- Archives quality and technical records and updates job files in records identifier library monthly.
- Performs specific laboratory procedures for method modification, verification, and validation.
- Ensures compliance to the Group and national policies including but not limited to the maintenance of the Integrated Management System.
- Operates to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity.
§ Performs other related duties as may be assigned either in contribution to departmental goals or for his/her personal or professional training, education or development as programmed by his/her immediate superior.
- Complies with the Quality, Health and Safety, Environment and Energy (QHSEE) policies and supporting objectives including, but not limited to:
o Demonstrates strong obligation to SGS QHSEE policies, procedures and work instructions by actively participating in meetings, projects and events, completes required training, intervenes in unsafe situations, refuses unsafe work, and complies fully with all applicable laws and regulations related to HSEE
o Perform appropriately and immediately to emergency situations and assists other staff members in maintaining readiness to respond to emergencies within the workplace
o Disposes or directs the disposal of waste generated as a part of daily work performed in a safe manner and in compliance with the disposal regulations and requirements, and in accordance with SGS Environmental Management System requirements
o Reports all incidents, including near misses and hazards, that may affect the achievement of QHSEE objectives in accordance with SGS Incident Reporting and Management requirements
o Efficiently uses all equipment, including safety equipment, and company owned property in the manner intended and reports any damaged / lost equipment to immediate superior
o Maintains a safe and tidy worksite according to the organization’s 5S program and guidelines
o Maintains awareness of the safety and health related hazards and environmental aspects and proposes action plans to control the risks to immediate superior or QHSEE Coordinators
o Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by SGS management
o Fulfills the requirements needed in the success of the QHSEE Management System
o Recognizes the potential consequences of not following the established policies, procedures, and guidelines, including not fulfilling the organization’s compliance obligations
Profile
- Registered chemist (BS Chemistry, BS Biochemistry, BS Agrichemistry)
Required Skills
Experience/Technical Knowledge
§ Minimum 2 years’ experience as laboratory analyst
§ Core (Integrity, Work Standard, Customer Service Orientation, Communication), Professional/Technical Knowledge, Functional (Organization skill, Analysis/Problem Assessment, Attention to Details/ Quality orientation, and Judgment/ Problem-solving).
Language
§ Fluent in English (both written and verbal)
