Job Description

As part of the Facilities Division, the Unit provides Engineering, Project Development, Project Execution, and other Project Services in support of the man business units.

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering & Construction, this individual will be an experienced Project Engineer that will provide technical capabilities to support growth opportunities across associated facilities and projects.  Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Part of an interdisciplinary team working on Facilities Projects from Operation Engineering support up to Multi-Billion Dollar Mega Projects;
  • The role is focused on the execution of projects from FEED to project closeout;
  • An overall understanding of the project execution process is required to be effective in executing a project successfully;
  • Manage third party engineering consultants, fabrication facilities, construction contractors, vendors and other related service providers;
  • Apply technical and problem-solving capabilities to support business growth opportunities;
  • Plan and execute projects with safety in mind and support efforts to ensure reliable operation of the facility systems;
  • Create or manage the creation of scoping documents, execution and project plans, drawings, RFP, RFI, decision records, equipment specification, purchase requisitions, contracts, and operating narratives etc.;
  • Prepare consultant work requests to direct the services of construction contractors and engineering service providers;
  • Review engineering documents prepared by EPC consultants, contractors and suppliers;
  • Work with the project controls team to establish project baselines related to cost, schedule, scope, quality and risk areas, and monitor performance against these baselines;
  • Actively participate in design reviews and process hazard assessments;
  • Champion solutions to address operational problems;
  • Ensure project deliverables are technically accurate, adhere to project constraints and ensure deliverables are completed in accordance with the  PMO (Project Management Office) project management processes and industry best practices;
  • Provide engineering expertise to support new business opportunities and operational excellence initiatives;
  • Manage consultants and contractors to complete capital projects while applying Project Management processes to ensure their deliverables are within scope and meet cost, schedule, and quality targets;
  • Embrace opportunities to work on-site in the field to support capital and expense projects;
  • Liaise with contract specialists to develop RFPs, Bid Packages and corresponding purchase orders. Prepare scope of work for services Interface collaboratively with the Project Team, Operations, Service Groups, Peers and other stakeholders to enhance continuity of effort and execution effectiveness; and
  • Act as an SME in areas of expertise and help to develop and champion initiatives of continuous improvement within these areas; and

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will be a Professional Engineer and be registered with APEGA;
  • Candidates who are eligible for professional accreditation will be considered;
  • Minimum of 12+ years of relevant engineering experience in managing capital projects;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and protocols applied in the industry;
  • Working knowledge of technical standards and specifications related to process piping and systems; static, rotating, fired and pressure equipment;
  • Possess extensive knowledge of engineering principles related to facility design and construction and be experienced in the application of the rules and regulations governing the industry;
  • Previous field experience in operating and or construction of processing facilities are valuable attributes;
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant technical standards, safety codes and regulatory requirements applied in Alberta for petrochemical, processing and storage facilities;
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with field operations staff to develop and implement solutions;
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, report writing and verbal communication skills along with presentation capabilities;
  • Driven, results-oriented individual who naturally takes responsibility for setting the standard and achieving results;
  • Self-directed and capable of working within a continuously changing environment;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Instills confidence and creates strong relationships quickly; and
  • Creative and accepting of new challenges.

 

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing.  You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.
