Job Description

This position will conduct a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.

  • Preparing rock samples for mineral processing test work.
  • Preparing samples for the following comminution tests - DWI, RWI, SMC, Ai, CWI
  • Preparing test charges for - Flotation, Gravity, Leaching
  • Must be able to supervise and train personnel train personnel on the above tests and in the operation of the following equipments - Crushers, Grinders, Pulverizers, Splitters
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples.
  • Conduct routine and experimental testing.
  • Record test data and communicate test results.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment or components.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
  • Install and operate equipment and systems.
  • May be assigned or coordinate special or ad hoc projects.
  • May be designated Shift Supervisor on an as-required basis.

Qualifications

  • Education: A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • A post secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering etc.) is highly desirable
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting is a strong asset. 
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Incumbents must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Good time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
