SGS has an impressive diversity of services. The department I.A.C. (Institute for Applied Chromatography) is specialised in high-tech research; a.o. the determination of dioxins and micro-pollutants by means of high resolution mass spectrometry and the determination of metals on (ultra)trace level with coupled ICP-techniques.

Dioxinen kunnen ongewenst ontstaan bij industriële processen zoals afvalverbranding en chemische productie en kunnen aangetroffen worden in de lucht, water en vervuilde bodem. Als ze zich ophopen, kunnen ze schadelijk worden voor de menselijke gezondheid. Met ons dioxine-onderzoek kunnen we identificeren waar dergelijke giftige concentraties ontstaan. Verder controleren we ook het dioxineniveau in voedsel en dierenvoeding.

Een greep uit jouw takenpakket:

• Het grootste deel van de dag zal je instaan voor de analyse van dioxinestalen met behulp van gas- en vloeistofchromatografie / hoge resolutie massaspectrometrie.
• Daarnaast ben je ook verantwoordelijk voor het bijhouden van de kwaliteitsparameters. Dit houdt onder meer ook in dat je zelf kan nadenken over de ontwikkeling van nieuwe methodes en verbeteringen in procedures.
• Verder verzorg je de dataprocessing van de bekomen chromatogrammen en rapportage van de bekomen resultaten.
• Als laatste draag je uiteraard ook zorg over de instrumenten die je gebruikt in het labo en waak je erover dat ze tijdig worden onderhouden.

Dioxins can be unwanted by industrial processes such as waste incineration and chemical production and can be found in the air, water and contaminated soil. If they accumulate, they can become harmful to human health. With our dioxin research, we can identify where such toxic concentrations arise. We also monitor dioxin levels in food and animal feed.

Some of your tasks:

• Most of the day you will be responsible for the analysis of dioxin samples using gas and liquid chromatography / high resolution mass spectrometry.
• In addition, you are also responsible for maintaing the quality parameters. This includes thinking about the development of new methods and improvements in procedures.
• You are also responsible for data processing of the chromatograms obtained and reporting of the results.
• Finally, you take care of the instruments used in the lab and make sure they are maintained in a timely manner.

Met een nagelnieuw Bachelor of Master diploma (Chemie, Biochemie, Industriële Wetenschappen, Farmaceutische laborantoriumtechnologie…) op zak ben je klaar om de arbeidsmarkt op te stormen.

Indien je al relevante ervaring hebt opgedaan in een analytisch labo heb je uiteraard een streepje voor. Kennis van organische chemie, chromatografie en massaspectrometrie is de kers op de taart.

Het liefst van al zou je de hele dag in het labo staan. Je voelt je er helemaal thuis en kan deze passie ook overbrengen op jouw collega’s.

Termen als HRGC/HRMS, UPLC/MS-MS, UPLC/TOF, HRGC/MS-MS, GC/MS, GCxGC/MS, IC/LC-GC- ICP-HRMS, Flash HT-GC-CIRMS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, ... klinken jou als muziek in de oren. Dankzij een diepgaande kennis deze technieken kunnen jouw analytische skills zich ten volle ontplooien en durf je eender welke uitdaging aangaan.

Niets ontsnapt onder jouw arendsoog en elk probleem kan je onmiddellijk tackelen met je probleemoplossend vermogen.

Verder ben je graag innovatief bezig en kan je meedenken met onze klanten.
