Job Description

This position will supervise various ARD projects, in terms of data quality, interpretation and reporting, to ensure client expectations are met with respect to schedule and quality.

In addition to the technical side of data reporting and overall customer service, this role also includes the expectation that some sales activity will be involved in terms of letting new potential clients to SGS know of ARD services along with other SGS Minerals services.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical support to ARD test programs.
  • Supervise staff to ensure Quality Control (QC) standards are met for data review.
  • Work closely with the Manager, Supervisor, Technologists and Technicians to develop new laboratory methods in response to client needs.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory QC standards.  Responsible for the review of the data produced by the Technicians/Technologists to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Data entry, analysis and reporting of static and kinetic testing and other ARD-related test work.
  • Work in partnership with other Supervisors, Project Managers, and Technologists to ensure customer satisfaction and that client deadlines are met.
  • Plan and initiate procedures and systems to ensure continuous improvement of equipment and processes.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with clients and vendors.
  • Business development - represent the ARD business to clients, develop business opportunities, prepare scopes of work, issue proposals and coordinate project acceptance and opening.

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary education (three-year diploma) in a Science related program (Environmental Science, Chemistry or Geology,) is required. 
  • A minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting as Chemist (Inorganic/Environmental), Geologist, Metallurgist will be an asset.
  • Good knowledge and demonstrated application of best practices in laboratory and personnel management.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Strong leadership skills or demonstrate the potential of.
  • Good communication skills; by phone, email etc.
  • Display an interest in customer service and client interaction
  • A sense of diplomacy and networking skills are essential to build relationships with external clients as well as key internal personnel.
  • Must use skilled judgement in identifying sales opportunities, closing business and resolving customer related issues.
  • Previous experience providing client services is an asset.
  • Excellent customer service, client support, and business service consulting skills.
  • Able to be flexible and adaptable to changing demand and the ability to problem-solve.
  • Proven time management skills and a superior attention to detail. Must be accountable, self-motivated; provide team leadership and motivation towards a common goal
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.  Must have a valid passport for possible out of country travel. Travel up to 30% of the time to conferences, sales meetings, clients’ sites/offices, etc.
