Job Description

This position will supervise the workflow between the Canadian Geochemistry Operations and the Global Business Services (GBS) team ensuring all data validation and quality control is completed correctly and in a timely manner to meet the needs of the Canadian Operations. Also provides aid with training and support to GBS staff and individuals submitting Request Tracker (RT) requests.

  • Works closely with site Operations and Client Services to meet customer requirements for timely completion of data validation and assisting with quality investigations
  • Responsible for advising the site Operations and Quality of any short- or long-term quality failures or concerns while reviewing data and monitoring QC charts
  • Completes Control Chart Monitoring (CCM) reports and submits to site Operations
  • Sets and adjusts priorities for the GBS team to meet Canadian operational requirements  
  • Monitors RT system and ensure tickets are resolved in a timely manner
  • Reviews, modifies and implements SOP’s related to data validation and quality control, ensuring effective knowledge transfer to the GBS team 
  • Assists GBS team members in resolving issues related to data validation to complete ticket requests correctly and in a timely manner
  • Initiates and participates in quality investigation and ensures preventative actions are understood by responsible parties
  • Confirms schedules, performs regular coaching and training of employees to meet the Canadian Operational requirements
  • Clearly communicates job expectations to GBS team, while monitoring, appraising and reviewing their work.
  • Address individual team performance issues with the GBS Operations Manager and participates in performance reviews for the GBS team members
  • Enforces company policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Improves results by completing audits, identifying weaknesses and implementing improved changes.
  • Monitors KPIs to ensure business targets are being met.
  • Works closely with LIMS support to resolve any issues encountered during or directly related to the data validation process
  • Enforces and develops best practices in data validation to ensure the highest quality of results
  • Advises on resource requirements to meet forecasted work loads
  • May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed
  • Accountable for Health, Safety and Environment of personnel and the enforcement of all regulations as per the Company Health and Safety Manual, and the immediate reporting of any health, safety and environmental incidents, accidents or concerns to the Manager and H&S department for action
  • Demonstrates good and safe work habits and enforces a clean working environment
  • Extended hours including weekends may be required based on business necessities
  • Travel to other SGS locations is required time to time

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Chemistry, Computer Science or a related field is required
  • A minimum of 3 years laboratory experience, preferably in a Geochemistry laboratory is required
  • Previous experience with data validation and quality control
  • Excellent understanding of LIMS applications and procedures
  • Solid understanding of various lab procedures and general knowledge of instrumentation
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrates excellent English verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition
  •  Ability to work well with others & independently. Strong problem-solving skills
  • Works well under pressure
  • Travel to other SGS locations may be required from time to time
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
