Job Description

Reporting to the Department Head, this position is responsible for inspection and certification of lifting device equipment and/or parts for lifting device equipment to ensure compliance with legal specifications, client and/or manufacturing specifications and applicable standards according to SGS procedures.

The incumbent will perform various tasks related to visual inspections and use testing equipment such as penetrant, magnetic particle equipment and load test to detect discontinuities and/or certified lifting device equipment.
•    Perform tasks specified by his/her immediate supervisor; 
•    Plan and prepare work to be completed onsite at the client’s location (documents, equipment, etc.);  
•    Ensure that all equipment necessary is in proper working condition and that the calibration is still valid;
•    If necessary, calibrate non-destructive testing equipment;
•    Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities using liquid penetrant, magnetic particle and other non-destructive testing methods; 
•    Ensure that onsite work completed at the client’s location is consistent with the mandate, is completed on time and is conducted in a professional manner with meticulous attention to detail in order to provide excellent service;
•    Ensure all tests are carried out in accordance with approved procedures, specifications or standards in force, and evaluate results;  
•    Interact with clients regularly in order to ensure proper communications and a smooth workflow;
•    Inform the client should non-compliance be identified at a work site;
•    Prepare clear and concise reports within the prescribed time frames (usually 24 hours after completion);
•    Possibility of incorporating a system of continuous learning;
•    Perform related tasks such as specialized inspections, training, data entry, filing and photocopying documents.
 

Qualifications

   Education: 
o    A college degree in a technical field or a high school diploma combined with significant and relevant experience may be considered as equivalent;
o    Certification valid in forklift and scissor lift operation (Mandatory);
o    Fall protection, lockout and others (Asset).
•    Experience: 
o    More than 5 years of experience with handling of hoists, cranes and other lifting devices and/or equipment.
o    Acquire his 10 000 working hours in lifting device inspection.
 

Required technical skills: 

•    Possess Magnetic Testing level 2 certificates one or more certificates from the non-destructive certifying Agency at Natural Resources Canada Level 2 (MT and PT);
•    The following skills are considered as asset: qualified as a welding inspector from the Canadian Welding Bureau (CSA W 178.2);
•    Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. 
•    Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
•    Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
•    Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
•    Ability to work well with others & independently. 
•    Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
•    Works well under pressure.
•    Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
•    Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
