SUMMARY

Responsible for the management of the GLP and Residue Chemistry department to assure development, validation, implementation, and performance of analytical and residue chemistry techniques to determine chemical characteristics of agricultural input or product.

JOB FUNCTIONS

·       Provide rapid and efficient technical expertise in the development, validation, implementation, and performance of analytical and residue chemistry techniques for the analysis of known or new/proprietary compounds in diverse agricultural matrices including crops, soils, and water.

·       Expand testing capabilities with focus on development, validation, and implementation of new and efficient testing techniques. This includes identifying resource, equipment, and capacity requirements.

·       Manage the GLP and Residue Chemistry team to ensure all study goals, objectives, and deadlines are met. This includes but not limited to, providing guidance and making quick decisions regarding all phases of studies based on client’s requirements, troubleshooting instrument problems,  troubleshooting analytical and residue chemistry method development issues, and investigating failures of proficiency tests or quality checks.

·       Prioritize GLP and non-GLP studies based on client’s deadlines and assign studies, tasks, and responsibilities to team members to ensure timely completion of studies.

·       Provide technical expertise in reviewing and streamlining existing methods and SOPs to ensure rapid, efficient, and safer testing.

·       Perform responsibilities related to role as GLP Primary Investigator (PI) for pesticide residue studies, soil/aquatic dissipation studies, and seed treatment studies.

·       Ensure the GLP and Residue Chemistry team follow the correct procedures, policies and documentation requirements across all phases of studies (includes samples and reference standards receipt and storage) and adhere to GLP regulations, ISO 17025 regulations, all other related regulations.

·       Ensure critical phases of studies are audited by the QAU as required.

·       Ensure all data is recorded accurately, verified, and audited by the QAU.

·       Prepare the GLP and Residue Chemistry laboratory for internal and external audits.

·       Ensure communication and interaction with clients. This includes providing updates and quality control checked data on their studies.

·       Provide information and formal training on procedures, SOPs, safety, quality, and instrumentation techniques to GLP and Residue Chemistry members.  

·       Ensure the set-up, adjustment, maintenance, and operation of laboratory equipment including GC-MS and LC-MS/MS.   

·       Ensure laboratory instruments are calibrated to specified technical requirements.                                                                                           

·       Review and update SOPs and procedures and write new ones as needed.

·       Assist in other areas of the company as needed.

·       Ensure quality and confidentiality of client and company information.

·       Promote responsibility, good work habits, a positive work environment, and improve customer service.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·       B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemistry or similar discipline is required, with a minimum of 5 years of instrumentation experience (chromatography, spectrometry, etc.), a minimum of 5 years of wet chemistry/bench experience and a minimum of 3 years of GLP and ISO testing experience. Principal Investigator experience required.

·       Experience with chromatography software and able to evaluate the quality of chromatographic integration, calibration, and results for complex, multi-analytic methods.

·       Knowledgeable in data reporting, technical requirements and appropriate regulatory guidelines.

•         No travel required.

 

EQUIPMENT

•         This job operates in a professional laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones, but also laboratory equipment, including balances, shakers, extractors, hoods, chromatographs, mass spectrometers, etc.
