Job Description

Summary

Responsible for the overall supervision and performance of quantity and quality determination inspections of ships, barges, shore tanks, and pipeline transfers of petroleum, petrochemical and chemical products.

  • Assures correct execution of Field assignments according to client requirements, ASTM/API and Company policies and procedures
  • Assures correct and complete Field reporting e.g. SAT.
  • Assures safe execution of Field assignments as per Company/Terminal Safety Program
  • Confirms quantities with local terminal personnel when required.
  • Liaison and collaboration with other Branch office personnel i.e. Coordinators, Dispatchers, Supervisors, Admin and Laboratory staff to ensure timely and effective communication between all stake holders.
  • Cover for Coordinators/Dispatchers/Operations Supervisor/Manager as and when needed.
  • Liaison with Laboratory at night and on weekends as needed
  • Liaison with Clients regarding  reporting/job updating, and with Operations Manager/Supervisor regarding problems/concerns as needed
  • Provides Field training for Inspection personnel as needed or as directed.
  • Completes Training Agenda report regularly
  • Completes Field Audits and monitors training performance and equipment
  • This position may (directly or indirectly) manager or supervise employees and will be responsible for the overall direction,  coordination, and evaluation of these individuals. Executes responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws and the organization's policies which include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; managing employee timekeeping within the Kronos system; 
  • Analyze work load to effectively and efficiently manage over time hours.
  • Conduct regular employee meetings to ensure that all personnel are completely informed with regard to policies, procedures and performance issues, for their development and improvement.
  • Conduct regular safety tool box meetings and manage Hazard reporting in Crystal.
  • At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct
  • Monitor field equipment condition and arrange for calibration/service/repairs as and when needed.
  • Participate in work groups for special projects as and when needed.
  • Manage and approve subordinate expenses in i-Expense.
  • Performs all of the duties and responsibilities of a Senior Inspector as needed/assigned
  • Comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct at all times.
     

Qualifications

  • High School degree or general education degree (GED).
  • A minimum five (5) years field experience and two (2) years Supervisory experience in the Inspection Industry with strong working knowledge of required reporting procedures.
  • Position requires incumbent to work weekends and to be on call 24/7 when needed, to meet business commitments.
  • Must be able to work with all chemical, petrochemical, and petroleum products.
  • Must be able to climb, bend and stretch without restriction.
  • Ability to build and lead an effective team and foster a sense of collaboration to achieve goals.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, while directing numerous projects concurrently with different deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Position  requires  a  dependable  and  reliable  individual;  whose  daily presence  adds  to  the success of the Department.
  • Must have experience working in assigned Terminals and be familiar with their policies and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize potential field issues/problems and use initiative to resolve pro-actively.
  • Ability to give/receive constructive criticism without prejudice in order to hone skills and correct deficiencies.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and utilize a respirator.
