Job Description

The Functional Head of Accounting (FHA) is responsible for ensuring that within the delivery organisation of the jurisdiction the accounting practices and processes are consistent and meet the highest standard.

The FHA has the functional responsibility for all accounting staff (corp and accounting) within the jurisdiction.

  • Ensure the curriculum for all accounting staff training is fully up to date, reflects the latest insights in accounting standards as well as the correct use of the accounting software.

  • The FHA ensures, together with the HoD’s that all staff is qualified and trained such that they can perform their duties in the most effective and efficient manner.

  • The FHA works closely together with the HoD and the Team managers to ensure that all accounting staff have adequate PDP’s and that these PDP are executed.

  • The FHA key is the driving force behind getting people to the next skills level for promotion as quickly as they can practically do this. The FHA does this by supporting the HoD’s and their people in training them (class room and E-learning)

  • The FHA works closely with the Group Operation Director to ensure accounting software implementation and training in the jurisdiction is warranted.

  • The FHA does, besides strict functional tasks, also perform billable work.

  • To ensure protections of information assets of SGG MU and to abide by the ISMS in place at SGG MU.

  • The FHA maintains a record of all accounting skills, training attended and qualifications of all the staff who work in accounting.

  • The FHA tracks the PDP’s of all accounting staff.

  • The FHA ensures that software systems are used correctly and most effectively (Paxus, Microgen, E-front).

  • The FHA manages and updates content of the entire accounting training curriculum and training material. The preferred vehicle for such training is Learnupon E-learning.

  • The FHA does billable work for clients. This relates to complex client work, complex reviews and reviews as part of on the job training of staff.  The FHA has a goal of 50% chargeability.

  • The FHA is the go-to person for all accounting issues of a technical nature in the jurisdiction.

     

Qualifications

  • Degree holder and/or Fully ACCA / ACA qualified

  • Minimum 10 years’ operational experience in both fund or corporate accounting

  • Good coaching skills
