The Details:

Location: Downtown Seattle (remote is not available for this role)

Work Schedule: Our typical business hours are 8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday

Travel Requirements: Up to 15% in state travel

Category: Full-Time, Exempt, Non-Union

Physical Requirements: Must be able to sit for long periods of the day


What You Will Be Doing:

The Director of Learning Development will directly oversee functions related to the development of competencies, assessments, curriculum, and other development activity.  You will develop a contemporary learning strategy and implementation plan for the enterprise, including a blended learning approach, oversight of learning and development program strategy, and act as subject matter expert in curriculum design and development. Reporting to the Managing Director for the Training Partnership, this position will have oversight of planning and coordination functions including liaison with Operations and Delivery, budget oversight, academic integrity, and shared services relationships as it relates to development activity.  The Director will also represent the organization to outside partners during the process of curriculum development and approvals.  The Director will also track achievement of outcomes, key results, and other activity in support of strategic plan outcomes.

  • Develop and implement plans to meet learning development outcomes and key results;
  • Supervise and provide coaching for three Managers while supporting their own leadership role and team goals;
  • Provide direction for three departments, Competency Development, Assessment, and Curriculum Design in collaboration with the Managers for these areas;
  • Collaborate with external partners on development processes, feedback loops, and approvals;
  • Serve on external committees and represent the organization on curriculum topics. Present on Learning Development to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Supervise development and implementation of supplemental training services such as Open CE Library and Exempt Training Benefit;
  • Lead matrixed problem solving and support high risk areas to successful resolution; identify needed infrastructure improvements;
  • Analyze annual and quarterly budgets for planning, budgeting, and Board approval; Manage learning resources within tight supply/demand constraints; Provide analysis reports;
  • Collaborate and create relationships with internal stakeholders such as Learning Operations, Learning Delivery, Technology, Enterprise Intelligence, Project Management, Communications, and Customer Experience;
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert in the areas of organizational analysis/diagnosis, design, development, implementation, delivery and review of a comprehensive suite of solutions;
  • Lead risk management and oversight of mitigation for instructional issues;
  • Use data to achieve operational excellence through quality improvement (QI) cycles including goal markers and visuals;
  • Coordinate academic integrity efforts across department trusts;
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager. 


You Will Need to Have:

  • Stable work history;
  • At least 4 years of experience with curriculum development, competency development, or assessment development;
  • Experience managing developed programs that serve large audiences;
  • Subject matter expertise in organizational analysis/diagnosis, design, development, implementation, and delivery;
  • Strong familiarity with services at scale in education/training, healthcare, workforce development, retail, or similar with preference for experience high emotion/high stakes service sector;
  • Track record of successfully managing internal and external relationships;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing resources to narrow supply/demand constraints using technology and data;
  • Quality improvement (QI) cycle experience;
  • At least 1 year of experience leading services with diverse (cultural, racial, ethnic, linguistic) and low income customer base;
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets and maximizing resources in a highly effective manner;


  • At least 4 years of experience managing multiple teams;
  • Exceptional people leadership skill with strong track record of direct report experience.
  • Demonstrated high emotional intelligence and diplomacy;
  • Detail oriented with extremely strong follow through;
  • Ability to easily move between micro and macro orientations with sound judgement;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making through ambiguity and change;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify the necessity for direct intervention and the ability to move seamlessly from strategy to execution;
  • Strong track record and enthusiasm for deploying new technology to optimize service delivery design;
  • Sense of humor.
