Engineering and Maintenance Manager

Job Description

To fully manage the Maintenance and Engineering department to ensure all practices are in accordance with business requirements and relevant legislation. The role will manage a team of engineers and support administrator to ensure all service and maintenance of machinery allied to maximising efficiencies and ensuring that all processes meet the requirements of food safety, legality and quality. 

Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm (flexibility in working hours is required)

Auto-Enrolment Pension – Employer 3% / Employer 2% (goes up in April 2019)

23 days holiday, increasing to 24 after 3 years’ service 

A list of principal tasks that the job holder will be expected to do without exception as part of their normal duties:

  1. To manage and fully develop the Maintenance and Engineering function in accordance with business requirements.
  2. Co-ordination and supervision of all Engineering and Maintenance personnel including improvement in response times to breakdowns and completion of all personnel/payroll paperwork within the Department
  3. To be hands-on in maintenance and engineering’s as and when required in order to fulfil business requirements
  4. Co-ordination of service and planned maintenance of all machinery on site to ensure the safe working of all employees allied to maximising efficiencies
  5. Organisation and supervision of all Engineering personnel to maintain agreed standard servicing levels and cover for breakdowns over agreed timescales
  6. Minimisation of downtime through machinery efficiencies
  7. Supervision and monitoring of capital projects
  8. Management, co-ordination and supervision of all external contractors in accordance with site policies and audit / legal requirements
  9. Monitoring and control budgets
  10. Supervision of site maintenance to comply with internal and customer audits
  11. Completion of all necessary paperwork and reports relating to the Engineering Department as required by Senior Management
  12. Servicing of all machinery to agreed levels according to maintenance schedules
  13. Fault finding and repair of machinery following breakdown on a cover/call out basis with minimum disruption to production
  14. Ensuring safe operation of all factory plan
  15. Prevention of “dangerous practices” and responsibility for reporting and resolving any health and safety issues
  16. Active participation and attendance at all Company Health & Safety Meetings
  17. Housekeeping of Engineering Plant Rooms
  18. Other projects and responsibilities where appropriate in the running of the site.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience required/desired:

·Engineering qualifications in Mechanical and Electrical, including 16th / 17th Edition

·CAPEX management experience

·Strong people management experience

·Minimum 2 years’ experience in Food Manufacturing

·Ability to demonstrate experience of departmental budget control

·Strong IT skills – competent user of Microsoft Office

·Knowledge of ‘Navision’ is an advantage, but not essential

·Ability to communicate at all levels, both written and verbal with strong attention to detail

·Ability to work under pressure without supervision and meet tight deadlines

·Ability to work on own initiative and take initiative
