Job Description
The HSE Manager for Latin America is responsible for driving health, safety, and environmental performance across the region in alignment with the Global HSE strategy. The role supports both country‑level HSE governance and operational HSE needs across multiple business areas, operations and service.
Key Responsibilities and Outcomes
- HSE Country Governance: Establish and maintain a compliant HSE organisational structure in line with local regulations. Advise country management and business areas on legislative changes and operational impacts. Provide technical and regulatory guidance to ensure effective risk control and integration of HSE into daily operations.
- Health & Wellbeing: Support local health services, medical provisions, and employee wellbeing programmes.
- Emergency Response & Business Continuity: Ensure appropriate emergency response, incident management, and business continuity arrangements are in place at country level.
- HSE Leadership: Provide functional leadership, coaching, and capability development to operational and service teams across the region.
- HSE Risk Management: Develop, implement, and maintain robust HSE management systems compliant with ISO9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Ensure focus on critical risks and effective controls, supported by strong documentation, training, and communication. Ensure clear communication and adoption of local HSE policies across the region.
- HSE Strategy & Continuous Improvement: Support the Global Head of HSE and Americas Regional HSE Manager in delivering regional HSE strategy. Set local HSE objectives, lead continuous improvement plans, and review progress regularly to ensure alignment with business risks.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with local leadership, operational teams, HSE colleagues, and customers to strengthen HSE governance and culture.
- Monitoring, Measurement & Reporting: Ensure timely, accurate submission of all HSE data and reports. Implement effective monitoring systems for leading and lagging indicators and present findings to local leadership.
- Incident investigation: Oversee timely reporting and investigation of all incidents in line with global standards. Lead or support investigations, track actions, analyse trends, and ensure preventive measures are implemented.
- Training: Support training needs analysis and deliver HSE training to enhance competence and awareness.
- Auditing & Non‑Conformance Management: Maintain a risk‑based internal audit programme. Ensure non‑conformances are addressed within appropriate timelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (preferred).
- 5+ years’ experience managing HSE in complex organisations, including multi country‑level, and service‑based environments.
- Recognised country qualification in workplace safety legislation.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Environmental qualification (desirable).
- Experience in heavy industry, engineering, construction, oil & gas, or power generation (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of best‑practice HSE standards and extensive experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Internal auditor qualification for ISO standards.
- Strong incident investigation capability, including root‑cause analysis.
- Fluent in Portugues and English, both written and spoken (mandatory).
- Professional working proficiency in Spanish (preferred).
