Job Description: Accountant

Would be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. This role involves analyzing financial data, reconciling accounts, and providing valuable insights to support informed decision-making within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and subsidiary accounts.
    • Record financial transactions and ensure proper documentation for all financial activities.
  1. Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare regular financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Generate various financial reports for management, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
  1. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Assist in the development of budgets and financial forecasts.
    • Monitor budget performance and provide analysis of variances.
  1. Reconciliation:
    • Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable and accounts receivable balances, and other financial records.
    • Identify discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  1. Tax Compliance:
    • Prepare and file accurate and timely tax returns, including income tax, sales tax, and other applicable taxes.
    • Stay updated on tax regulations and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
  1. Auditing and Internal Controls:
    • Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of internal control procedures.
  1. Financial Analysis:
    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  1. Expense Management:
    • Review and process expense reports, ensuring adherence to company policies.
    • Monitor spending patterns and advise on cost-saving measures.
  1. Compliance and Regulations:
    • Stay current with accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
    • Ensure accurate and timely compliance with financial reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; ICAN or similar certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience as an accountant, preferably in a corporate setting is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and taxation.
  • Analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.

  • Strong experience within professional scales and possess the ability to prospect and manage senior level relationships.

  • Candidate must be residing in Lagos State.

  • May require occasional overtime or flexibility in working hours to accommodate special projects or deadlines.
  • May require occasional overtime during peak financial periods or audits.
