Senior Consultant | Restructuring & Performance

  • Full-time

Company Description

Roland Berger, founded in 1967, is the only leading global consultancy of German heritage and European origin. With 2,400 employees working from 35 countries, we have successful operations in all major international markets. Our 52 offices are located in the key global business hubs. The consultancy is an independent partnership owned exclusively by 250 Partners.

It is our European background that makes the difference. We have a deep understanding of diverse cultures and markets. We combine European roots with pragmatism and entrepreneurial spirit. Our results turn visions into reality. This is how we create real value for our clients.

Job Description

Our Restructuring & Performance practice advises larger mid-market companies and international corporations on complex restructuring and turnaround situations across their strategic, operational and financial agenda. As part of our build-up in Greater China, you will help shape a growing team that supports both multinational groups restructuring their China operations and local champions navigating special situations.

Within holistic restructuring concepts, we define our clients' strategic targets and create the basis for sustainable success through full liquidity transparency, competitive cost structures and a robust financing structure. We then drive implementation rigorously through our Project Management Office (PMO) and our interim management capabilities.

Our projects demand analytical and social competence alongside pragmatism, a strong bias for implementation, and experience in managing diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education & foundations

  • Excellent degree from a leading university or international business school, ideally complemented by an MBA
  • Strong business and finance fundamentals and a high affinity for numbers
  • Outstanding analytical and conceptual skills, paired with a strategic and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Business-fluent Mandarin Chinese and English; German is a strong plus

Restructuring & performance expertise

  • First relevant professional experience in restructuring, turnaround or performance-improvement projects – in consulting, a CRO/restructuring environment, with an investor (special situations/distressed) or in a corporate restructuring function; experience in or with the Greater China market is essential
  • Exposure to the design and/or implementation of holistic restructuring concepts across the strategic, operational and financial dimensions
  • Solid command of integrated business planning (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and short-term liquidity management – in particular 13-week cash-flow forecasting, liquidity transparency and cash management in distressed situations
  • Understanding of financial restructuring topics – capital and financing structure, refinancing, and the preparation of bank and stakeholder rounds – ideally with first exposure to the Chinese lender and stakeholder landscape
  • Hands-on experience in operational performance improvement, i.e. supporting the identification, quantification and implementation of EBITDA levers across functions: overhead/SG&A reduction, material and procurement cost, labor-cost measures, working-capital optimization, and footprint/plant consolidation and make-or-buy topics – with sensitivity to local cost structures and labor regulations
  • Confident construction of robust EBITDA and liquidity bridges (plan vs. actual, measures vs. volume) as well as scenario and sensitivity analyses
  • Experience contributing to measure tracking and implementation steering through a PMO – including measure definition, maturity/"hardness" gating, and tracking impact through to the cash level
  • A plus: exposure to cross-border restructuring, carve-outs and distressed M&A, and familiarity with European/German restructuring frameworks (e.g. IDW S6, StaRUG) for serving multinational clients in cross-border situations

Personality & working style

  • Structured, results- and implementation-oriented, also under time pressure and in special situations
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in interacting with management, shareholders, lenders and local authorities
  • Cultural fluency across Chinese and international stakeholders – able to bridge Western parent companies and local operations
  • Entrepreneurial drive to help build and shape a growing restructuring team in China
  • A strong interest in innovative, AI-based solutions and the ability to apply new technologies and data skills effectively across complex questions
