Ringier South Africa is a technology company supporting international marketplaces. We build and maintain the tech for Classifieds Marketplaces across the world. Our platforms attract millions of views per month and are market leaders in their respective countries. We aim to solve all of the technical requirements for running a highly scalable, highly available marketplace business. It does this while still giving local customizations for different countries and continuously improving from what we’ve learned in other markets.

What will you do?

• Design and implement new features and enhancements using modern JS, HTML, CSS and PHP
• Experience with Blade templates and Laravel an advantage
• Fix bugs assigned during the sprint planning process.
• Design code, innovate and solve complex problems inherent in operating a high scale classifieds platform.
• Play a key role in reviewing and approving work of your peers as part of the software development process.
• Use prescribed tools and work according to the established Ringier South Africa software development process.
• Work closely with the UI and UX team to translate designs into code.
• Participate in the scrum process and daily stand-ups.
• Assist Head of Engineering and Product Manager with compilation of technical specifications.
• Serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced developers

• Degree / Diploma preferred but not required
• 5+ years in tech/development roles
• Firm grasp of Laravel framework (v9.0 and later) with a focus on Blade templating and highly competent in software design patterns
• Firm grasp of Tailwind CSS framework or another “utility-based” CSS approach preferred by not required.
• Solid understanding of Vue.js and/or React javascript frameworks
• Proficiency in MySQL, Redis, Memcached and related storage technologies advantageous. Solid experience with Continuous Integration, Git and Linux.
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Able to work with a diverse team which includes remotely located staff and developers.
• Ability to explain technical matters to non-technical staff
• Ability to work from your location with your own fast and stable internet connection as well as a productive home office workspace.
• Professional, self-motivated attitude.
• Proficient in written and oral English communication.
• High attention to detail
